So I installed an aftermarket dashcam in my 2010 Tacoma with an auto-dimming rear view mirror. I used Dongar Technologies' adapter to install the cam using the powered rear-view mirror plug.

Ever since I have done this, my stock backup camera that usually appears in my mirror does not work! It briefly displays a blue screen, then gray, then turns off completely. Hopefully someone out there has a resolution!

What voltage does the dash cam use? Probably 12 VDC.

The connector for the stock backup camera is only 6 VDC.

Disconnect the Dash Camera and See where you are afterwards.

Resolution is to supply a separate 12 VDC Power for your add in dash camera.

    Simple rule:

    It was working correctly.
    I did something.
    Now it doesn't work.
You did something wrong. Undo it.

Much appreciated. Obviously the ideal goal is to have them both hooked up at the same time, but I'm worried about fire hazards with non-matching voltages.

The thing is, your logic is sound. However, Dongar produces these adapters for this EXACT use, I can't imagine they would be successful if this were a common issue? The whole idea is the ease of hookup by using the pre-wired mirror plug! Sorry, it just doesn't make sense to me.

OK then, that is why I asked if the Dashcam was 12 volts or 6 volts... Most dash cameras are 12 volts.

I would still disconnect the dash camera to see if the reverse camera works with it out. That one step will tell you a lot. Esp since it was working before you installed the dash camera. This should be a quick easy test.

Maybe their device is defective or the dash camera.

I guess I shouldn't have said "You did something wrong" and should have said something is wrong either with the installation of the devices that were installed. or the devices themselves.
