I’m not in SoCal but met some great folks on volunteer trailwork days with our local trail group. Plus it’s rewarding to build and maintain the trails, and to learn how and why they get designed and built, from the politics to the details of tread and drainage.

Same reason you can't bring some batteries and some phones on airplanes etc - that shit can go boom. Static electricity of the chairlifts might cause issues. And it's not a quick and easy evac plan - yup. You bought an e bike, ride that e up the mountain bitches. :D

I honestly think it has more to do with bike loading and employee ergonomics since E-bikes tend to be quite a bit heavier (with exceptions sure). Those health and safety types really scrutinize that stuff.

I love it. I love that EHS was like "nah, we send people bombing down a mountain and flying through the air, but you can't lift the bike".

    >50 lbs though, probably an OSHA thing. But now that makes sense about the stick figure.

Yeah, what people choose to do on the trails is their business, but if its a park employee doing the lift and twist, it totally makes sense. I'm fishing buddies with our EHS guy at work so we talk shop a lot, and the stress factors are staggering even on relatively small loads but at arms length. Especially if its repetitive like a shift of loading bikes on a lift.

Anybody have ideas for a bike stand? I have two MTBs (soon to be three) and I want something that I can just park super fast and pull even faster. Not wanting to pile or hang them on a wall, either.

Right now, I just have a tire stand and the Park Tool Work stand. But pulling bikes can be a PITA.

PVC rack is dirt cheap to make and super sturdy. I store all my bikes in an almost identical rack at home. you can fit 3 bikes in a really compact space if you nose the middle one in.

This probably hit the nail right on the head. I was watching a YouTube video of some bike manufacturers mechanics shop and they had electric powered park tool bike stands (https://www.parktool.com/product/power-lift-shop-stand-prs-33), and they said they had to get them because of e-bikes being so heavy and OSHA standards requiring team lift or lift assist for >50lbs.

Get one of them ratcheting cutters to cut, I used PVC for my sleeping platform. I am going to make one of those soon though for my bike storage in the garage. The fittings and pipes in that picture looks like close to 50-100$ range.

Granted the price of PVC is up, but I was closer to the $25 mark for a 3 bike rack 2 years ago.

Mine is part of the support rails for the resin shed. seems sturdy *enough* to hang a couple of road bikes off one rail, and one mountain bike off another rail. I'm hoping there's some kind of hook that connects to it so I can try it out.

I was ballparking it based on my platform, but for that one I used....1"? so that might be bigger too. Most of my $$$ was in the fittings though.

    upload_2021-5-25_13-47-44.jpg

This was for my platform - add the cutter was like 20 bucks, I'd say "Platform PVC cost 100 bucks".

I used 1.25 or 1.5", but didnt get nearly as fancy on fittings. I used Ts and 90s only, so that's where I saved a good bit of money over your spreadsheet. Also had the cutter due to a sprinkler project. Either way, sub $100 for a decent bike rack is pretty good.

Yup. I'll see if I can score one on the facebook for cheap before I build one, but otherwise will probably make one once I clean up the garage enough to get my bikes back accessible.
