It looks like the left is higher to me as well. I'm assuming it's just an angle though.

    Assuming.

That looks more green than what's in the OP picture. Did you use a color picker to pull out the color or find it elsewhere? Maybe it is just the difference between seeing a small sliver of the color vs over the entire truck.

I agree it looks like there is a slight lift. The gap over the wheel looks slightly larger, but as you said maybe it is just the angle. Assuming the new color is the Pro, which is pretty fair, that would make it even slightly more of a lift than the Pros already have over the other trims.

I blew out two of the stock OR tires over a 4in pothole, riding through a parking lot at 10mph. Got out and looked for anything that would have caused it, nothing but rocks. This was only after a month of having the truck. Stock wrangler rubber is shit. Replaced them all with Gen. Grabber ATX's after that and couldn't be happier.

So what's the prototype? The wheels, the paint, the tires? Hybrid drivetrain?

I doubt there is any hybrid or change in drivetrain. It would take too much money and effort to completely redo the drivetrain now when there is only a couple years of life left in the 3rd Gen. The TNGA-F platform should be designed for hybrid (and possibly full EV) from the ground up, so I'm sure they'll start offering that option when those come out. When they reveal the new Tundra, I guess we'll find out more of what their plans are for the new platform.

Very true..lol. Just wondering what the "prototype" is. Seems like it would be a different model truck with options. That's why I speculated hybrid Tacoma announcement.

I've heard that so many times in this thread and my response is this:

The frame and basic architecture of this truck date back to the early 2000's. The first lines were probably put to paper when people were afraid of the Millennium bug.

Where would they put a battery?

The chances of us seeing a Hybrid 3rd gen are planet-core low. Won't happen until the next gen Taco is announced as the F1 architecture will have hybrid tech in mind.

I can still speculate on a prototype. :p. But yes just probably an overlanding version with the Tacoma trailer option. Bling wheels and a luxury heritage edition.

Am I crazy, or does the left truck look a bit like Lunar Rock?

Also, I did three color samples and came up with these variants, but my best guess would be the third, darkest version:

I think the light in the pic is deceiving. I am going with spring green color.

My guess is the truck on the left is the '22 Off Road with the optional lift they are selling. The "package" will come with that lift and the "pro" wheels. Agree that it is Lunar Rock which would make sense for pro colors moving down the lineup.

As for the pro color, looks more highlighter yellow than the Sun Fusion found on the FJ.

Maybe it is more Topaz Yellow?

It is probably either a heritage edition, or a new category of off road, possibly higher priced than the TRD Pro.

I think toyota will stick with the 9-10 year generation run, they will proof the Turbo V6 and Hybrid in the Tundra, 2024/5 ish the new Tacoma introduction dropping the 3.5 v6 and the 4 cyl and offering 2 powertrains, Hybrid and the Turbo 4 cyl.

Mid generation of the 4th gen on Tundra and Tacoma, we will probably see a PEV electric offering of both.

4 runner will probably follow a similar path

I think the new edition will be a higher priced version than the TRD Pro, Toyota has to raise their top end offerings in order to raise prices on their bottom and mid prices models and that is one of the ways to do it.
