What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

I have a bunch of avdec gaskets laying around if you need. We use it in everything since it has a metal mesh inside to keep electrical connection and keeps the two separate

 

So, got rear ended by a drunk in traffic. Not bad, we were going slow but he never hit the brakes at 10-15 mph. I might as well upgrade to a steel bumper (no one makes aluminum apparently). Anyone have suggestions? Think I'll have it linexd too....they tend to rust quick in the virginia region! Any suggestions and experience would be appreciated.

Believe it or not, I went through the same thing with the bed on my Tundra, the bed was twisted on the frame. the body shope said, yeah they are designed to do that on impact and a "crumple zone" they unbolt the bed, and just recenter it. My wheels were almost touching the rear arch on the bed it slid forward so far. Frame damage may be different in your case but who knows. They don't usually look at total loss until well above 50% of the value. If I recall, the person who hit me's insurance person said in some cases depending on vehicle, 65-70%. My rear bumper got replaced and they fixed some paint and body damage on the bed. The most expensive part was the BSM sensors and calibration. I think the sensors were something like $3-400 each and the calibration was another $400 from the dealership.

 

Hardest part right now is lead times on bumpers. I would do the inside of the bumper with POR15 and fluid film it if you are worried about rust. then just do the exterior with some steel-it coating. Its surprisingly durable and has a powdercoat style finish.

 

I think it’s due to the galvanic siege.

 

2nd Best mod ever. Took like 7 or 8 months for this plate. Had to visit the dmv at least ten times. Worst part is they’ve had the title since March and it took 2 visits and a lot of patience while they said they didn’t have it, just not looking for it.

Today I installed the

$417 ‌Kikito Hard Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover for 2016-2025 Toyota Tacoma 5Ft Bed (59.8-60.5in) | Waterproof & No-Drill Installation‌

Kikito FRP Hard Trifer-Fold Tonneau Cover on my 2021 TRD Sport DCSB. It was excellently packaged for shipping and the instructions are as ridiculous as stated in the Amazon reviews (luckily I didn't eat much lead as a kid, so install was simple). One small note is that you should open this thing outside or at least in the garage as it off-gases something terrible. The cover itself is of acceptable quality for the $458 price tag. They were a little sloppy where the parts are sealed together (see photo) and the mounting attachments for the rail system are generally acceptable, but not perfect. The mount pieces for the inside of the rail system are about 3/8" long and get caught in the little grooves along the inside of the rails (see photos). Not a deal breaker, but complicates installation in two small ways; 1. it catches repeatedly when trying to slide the mounts in, forcing you to slow down and guide them into place (in my America we go fast), and 2. If you're not careful, they'll get stuck halfway in one of the grooves in the deck rail and damage the rail when you tighten everything up. Also, the panels are shiny where I'd prefer matte black. Other than that, I'm going to have to mess with the mounting a bit to see if I can get it to lay flatter. The front and rear seals may just need to break in a bit, but right now it's a little high at both ends. Overall... I'll expand the Amazon star rating and give it a 6-7/10. Not perfect, but acceptable until I freak out a buy a better one.

Got the taco aligned after suspension install. OME leads are squeaky but I just turn my music up. Just installed another fire extinguisher after using my last one to help a car fire two weeks ago

Hi jacking in progress. Probably not the right spot for this but maybe someone will be kind. Other than paying out the nose at the dealer ship what’s the other best options for replacement key fob for 2018 with push button start? I see lots on eBay and Amazon. But how do I know I’m getting g the correct one?
