Ethan's 2018 TRD OR daily driver

Disclaimer: This is probably gonna be pretty boring. I'm hoping to use this thread to keep my thoughts aligned, avoid impulsively buying dumb stuff, and track what I'm using my truck for and how I can improve it. Probably more trip reports in this thread than build/upgrade stuff.

The brief for this truck, in no particular order:

1. Light trail runs
2. Daily driving (I don't commute anymore so this is low priority)
3. Hauling mountain bikes and kayaks
4. Hauling dogs
5. General adventure support; camping, hiking, etc.
   
6. Towing ATV's and UTV's around

So far I've basically been filling it with gear; recovery stuff, an axe, a shovel, some vehicle rescue stuff, a first aid kit, etc.

Next stuff:

1. OEM roof rack
2. Softopper

Future stuff:

1. Rocksliders (I really don't want to dent the cab and fuck the doors up...)
2. Front bumper with a winch (maybe)
3. Suspension (Probably 6112/5100)
4. Bigger/more robust tire (Leaning towards a Duratrac)
5. Gearing (I never see 6th gear in this thing)

Way future stuff:

1. Coilover conversion
2. Buying something different I don't have to DD to mod and beat the hell out of. Probably a 2nd gen if I can find a trashed one.

 

You haven't been in 6th gear?

 

I have, just not often. Speed limits in this part of Canada top out around 60mph and there's a lot of hills, so it's always in 5th or 4th.

 

I have a serious gear obsession so I had a lot of fun building out a "vehicle EDC" for this truck. I'm going to catalog it here but like...don't feel like you need to read it. lol

Glovebox

• Typical insurance papers n crap
• Bag of assorted chargers, battery pack, etc

Center Console

• Pocketknife
• Leatherman multitool
• Folding scissors
• USB rechargeable flashlight
• Dog poop bags

Basket on back seat

• Just having this basket to hold loose random crap is super useful.
• Couple reusable shopping bags (I always forget them and plastic ones are illegal somehow)
• Box of masks

Driver side front door

• Suede/leather work gloves
• Water bottle

Pass side front door

• Nothing so far

Driver side rear door

• 1L bottle of water (2x)
• Couple pairs of wool gloves
• Couple wool caps/toques/beanies
• Second pair of work gloves

Rear of front passenger seat

• Reflective work jacket for shipyard visits (on a hook attached to the headrest)
• Bunch of masks (on the hook on the other side)
• ResQme glass breaker/seatbelt cutter ziptied to the headrest
  
• Leatherman Raptor triage/medic scissors in the pocket on the front passenger seat

Pass side rear door

• First aid kit
• Roll of shop towels

Under driver side rear seat

• Small socket set
• Tire pressure gauge

Under pass side rear seat

• Duct tape
• Electrical tape
• Compressor (too small to be useful, need to replace the one that was in my Corolla)

Behind driver side rear seat

• Small tool bag full of tie downs (mostly cinch straps for kayaks)
• Blanket for my dog

Behind pass side rear seat

• Front seat covers
• Duffel bag full of towels and blankets
• Peanut butter jar full of garbage bags

Bed

• Action packer full of recovery gear
  • 2x 20ft kinetic ropes
  • Soft shackles
  • Hard shackle on a hitch receiver
  • Tree saver strap
  • Static tow strap
• Net turned into a bag holding:
  • Slip on rubber fire boots
  • Spare set of windshield wipers
