Hey out there, can anyone help here? Got a strange "clank" sound coming from the suspension when I hit small bumps. I should be clear, I live on dirt roads in the mountains which are bad at best. Seems to happen only when suspension is been compressed . I only hear it a slow speeds as the gravel roads tend to be noisy. Truck only has about 15000 miles on it. Any Ideas? most definitely a clank. imagine a speed bump, driving over it not too fast, then clank
    every time

Do you have a manual? Or auto ....my manual. Has a clunky noise when going over speed bumps dealer told me it is the drive shaft has some play when the clutch is pushed in perfectly normal .

Yes it’s manual. But this noise happens when clutch is not depressed, in gear , not travelling very fast, even happens when applying the brakes.

Check the spare for proper position and make sure the chain isn’t hanging down.

    I've had three noises.
Center caps one speed bumps. Fixed by using RTV. Then ditched them altogether.
Popping while turning tight angles at low speeds, in reverse, etc. Tightened my lower control arms.

This is prolly your issue - Low speed clunking over speed bumps - front body bushings were completely rusted through after 40k miles. Replaced, and no more clunk. Easy 1.5 hour job.

Here is one of my front body mounts after 40k miles:

But I only have 14000 miles on the truck. I see no evidence of rust……. Yet

Is there a way to inspect the body mount bushings without taking them off? I have been trying to identify a similar noise.

I mean you could loosen them and lift the body up a bit, but it would be kind of difficult to see the if the inner bolt shaft was rusted or not. The energy suspension mounts are aces above the stock anyway and not expensive so probably worth it to switch them out anyway.

If it helps anyone else, the noise on my truck ended up being a bad bushing on one of the front shocks.

This might be it. it seems to happen when the suspension is being unloaded, not compressed. I'll let you know

What's the PN for the energy suspension kit?

Last I checked they didn't have on for 3rd gens yet.

(Also, I get this same loud clunk on moderate bumps as well, sounds almost like a sledgehammer hitting the frame)

I'm thinking it might be the driveshaft. I live down a 4 mile mostly unmaintained dirt road and get a clunky sound. When I push in the clutch over bumps, it is the same sound, just more rapid. I assume it is driveline-related. I would grease it.... if only Toyota put a zerk there.

Do you guys both (@joshuajayg and @MT-1907 ) have sliders installed? I see sliders listed in MT-1907's sig. If so check the clearance between the cab body and your slider mounts. If they are close the cab/frame flex on the Taco's will allow contact and sound like someone is hammering your frame.
