Is online price matching every part a bad idea?

So, I am curious if all of you ask your local dealership to price match other dealerships online prices? Since I bought my truck, any time I’m looking to buy an accessory or part, I’m emailing the parts guy at my local dealership and asking him to sell something way below what they normally charge and he so far has agreed every time.
I’m just curious if doing this has come back to bite any of you in any way.

I mean whats the worst that happens? Your local dealer refuses to price match anymore and you just order online instead?

I have never found the parts guys at any of my local dealerships to be that helpful or friendly. I try to buy online as much as I can. I would assume if it was cutting into their profit margins, they would tell you no on the price match. Just shows you how marked up all the parts/accessories are. :notsure:

I don't "negotiate" prices with my dealer parts guy. They take a set 10% off their list because I bought my truck from them. I check on line prices and if the difference is just a little, the parts guy gets the nod. Sometimes it depends on how fast I want the part in my hand. Negotiating is not a bad thing but I don't want a "reputation" with him. Now, on the other hand, I worry the poop out of the salesman when buying a vehicle.

I guess I was thinking something along the lines of if I beat them up on price every single time, then when I have the truck in the shop for some repair down the road, will they really nail me for the cost of the part just because?
I’m sure I’m overthinking it. Just figured it was worth asking though.

I wouldn't worry about that. When you're truck is in the shop, you're gonna pay out the ass for the parts anyway.

I just find the part number for whatever part I want on-line then google it and see what dealers have the best price. Quick and easy.

You are going to get banned from the dealer with your penny pincher tactics and your truck will probably explode after having a discounted part installed .

Consider shipping costs for most online purchases and if sales tax applies to the online order and if it applies to your local purchase.

My dealer (who only sees me for recalls) price matches w/o a blip. Being in Fl I pay sales tax, but that's almost always way less than shipping for online vendors.

    They are still making $

Do what makes financial sense to you. If our local dealer is willing to match/beat prices, good for them. They get the business. If not, oh well....go elsewhere. It's all about the $$$.
