How do you know its an alternator issue? Regardless take a voltage reading across the battery terminals with the truck running, it should be above 14 volts. Less than 14V, its an alternator issue. Check the accessories belt, it could be loose. The battery terminals could be corroded. Cables could be bad.

I've seen batteries last 10 months and I've seen batteries last 10 years. I wouldn't rule out a bad battery just because it is only 8 months old

Have you checked all your connections?

If the battery load tests okay (not the silly little trickle check that auto parts stores do, those are like 50/50 on accuracy) then it shouldn't be your battery.

My guess is (Battery failure aside) something isn't plugged in all the way or a wire has been broken by an animal or other.

Alternator went out, with all the usual suspects. All kind of lights going off, radio on and off, finally quit running on expressway. Battery cables good, posts clean. Voltage check. All shows alternator needed. Put new alternator, new belt. Won't charge battery. Everything checked..getting new battery tomorrow eventhoug it's only 8 months old.
    Hopefully that's it.

I thought that was built into the back of the alternators?

Battery had full charge, drove it for short time. The lights on dash started acting up again. Went from 14v to 11v , won't. The battery charging light on dash doesn't show either.

The battery light on the dash should only come on when an issue with the charging system is detected.

Where did you get the alternator?

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
alt-s fuse and the main battery fuse. both of these can cause no charge.

if the alternator was replaced without disconnecting the battery, good chance the main fuse blew.

They have been since the eighties for the most.

Then the replacement cost may as well get the complete alternator.
