There is a reason why a used Chevy is so cheap and a used Tacoma cost damn near the price of a new one

You’ll have to take my word on this but same year , same mileage on both used trucks side by side. It’s Laughable.

    A few.
Just read this on a Ram fb group and thought it was pretty interesting.

"As a rental car manager/ former fleet manager for 13 years I have worked with every brand, from Chevy, ford, GM to Mercedes, Bmw, Volvo you name it. If you want a reliable car get a TOYOTA. I hate how they look but no other brand comes close to it!"

Thats fine if you don't own a vehicle before a major model change is done, but back in the day when i did audio system installs for a shop, it wasn't too common you could use your entire old system to install in a new vehicle.

I have owned many trucks over the years and had several Tacoma's before they were called Tacoma. I also had a 2005 Tundra with over 120,000 mikes and know issues. The oil in the Tundra was as clean as the day I bought it. Tacoma seems to really hold their value over any other midsize truck. My vote would be go with the Tacoma. I am 6Ft and have not issues with sitting for long hours. I have the JBL and it is fine for me but I am old so my hearing is shot anyway.

This is like going to a Boston pub and asking whether you should keep your Yankees cap..... But yeah, I'd take my 1st gen Taco any day over the GM vehicles I've owned.

Off Road is a smoother ride than the Sport, due to the suspension and 16" tires. Both get the same approx. est. mileage, but the OR has more options thrown in.

No brainer, the Sport sucks...… :bananadead:

True, these days it usually isn't a direct. In theory I could have kept everything from my 2006 Colorado to my 2010 Tacoma, but just had to mod the doors for 6x9s instead of 6.5s..the big ticket pieces though such as the head and amps are another story.

If they let you in the door haha

year and mileage is important. What is not stated is if the two trucks are of comparable trim levels. One also should consider the original price paid for the vehicle. People tend to pay more for a newTacoma than other mid size trucks .

Not debating the value of a Tacoma over other vehicles. Just saying the comparison needs to be as equal as possible.

Same with the 2001 4.7 tundra i had with nearly 300k miles....oil was cleaner after a year in that tundra compared to our shops chevy's with under 50k miles. I used change the oil in the tundra once a year around 18k-20k miles using mobil 1 synthetic. That truck still ran like new when i sold it last year.

this is true both were “mid” level and similar options. A blue book would give same result. Tacoma still holds on average 2/3 of retail after 3 years. The highest resale on any truck in the market. The 2018 broke 275,000 Tacoma sales while the “others” were sub 100k. Some were ever sub 50k

and let’s not take aftermarket product availability

Not disputing that Tacoma is number 1 in sales and holding value in the mid size PU market.
Also not disputing because of that the after market options is more available for for Tacoma owners.

I know in 2016 when I was once again shopping for a mid size, Toyota and GMC/Chevy were not dealing much off of msrp. Ended up buying a Nissan Frontier Pro 4x. It was way less than a Tacoma OR. The Frontier reminds me a lot of my 06 Tacoma. With the strange used car market today kbb has my Frontier at $26,477 - $30,124. That is only a few thousand less than what I paid for it back in 2016.

imo, if I was looking today for a new midsize I would buy either a Toyota or a Nissan. I also would wait till supply begins to catch up with demand. That means I would wait till the new Frontier is out. I normally pass on first year models, but the engine at transmission combo has been out since 2020.

I too am in my truck a lot...bought it new Jan '19 and currently have 108 or 109K miles (haven't checked in a day or 2). I also own several GM products (full size SUVs - one High Top Conversion Van). The vehicles are different and while the stereo in my truck is not nearly as nice and neither is the luxury....to me my truck is VERY comfortable. That being said - and as others have mentioned - perhaps you do not need a truck. I have no idea of your specific situation but many cars (similar/less price range) - like a camry, avelon would be FAR more comfortable and with the hybrid options, your 4 hours driving would be much less costly.

I own a horse farm and I am often driving along trails on my property or out in the fields and I'm often in 4WD....so I prefer a truck. I tried the car route - even bought a couple of prius vehicles...I just did not like that when I pulled onto my property I had to get into another vehicle to drive out to a pasture or the barn, etc. As far as dependability, every day driving...I absolutely LOVE my Tacoma, in fact it is probably my second favorite vehicle I have ever owned and I've owned a lot - I am old. I wish you luck OP - though this is not a great time to be truck hunting...with a trade it is not AS bad, since the trade in vehicle will fetch higher than usual too.

BTW - My favorites (I had 2) were my 83 and 89 Jeep Grand Wagoneers...BY FAR my favorite vehicles...in fact I'm probably going to buy another (from Wagonmaster - Kerrville TX)...just waiting for kids to finish college.

The old Wagoneers were my favorites too, I had a bunch of them plus a J truck -- this was how I taught myself to weld...
The Wagoneer has no blind spots and is surprising nimble, it seems to look bigger than it actually is.

That GMC is a better value for somebody who needs a truck. Plus the GMC has LED headlights.
