Hello everyone, i have an 05 tacoma 2.7l 5 speed. Absolutely love the truck but seems to run super lean. Plugs are white.. was wondering if theres any decent tuners or anything that may fix the problem and maybe get me a little more hp in the process. Thankyou in advance.

I’d start with cleaning the maf sensor and throttle body. If you’ve never done it or don’t know how, search for the instructions, follow instructions closely. You don’t want to end up buying a new maf sensor, they’re not cheap.

Run a tank of premium with some jectron, take it for a long drive.

Connect a code reader to check for stored codes. Do the erase codes function even if there are none. It makes the ecu do a relearn thing.

Trying to get more performance, you have to keep in mind what you have, and what you’re going to get even if you dump a ton of money into it. You could look at the builds others have done.

    An 05?

Have you upgraded to the URD fuel filter and pump?

If not your fuel filter is probably clogged and the fuel demanded isn't reaching the engine.

Made a big difference for my 2010 V6.

I understand it is a 2.7l 4 banger lol, but to me it seems dogish. I did notice with these there is no inline fuel filter, and i have had to replace injectors because of them being clogged up and misfiring. I am installing an inline filter under the hood. Hope that will help that problem. I will try cleaning throttle body and the sensor.

Adding an additional filter will only further your fuel restrictions, assuming there is one. I imagine after 16 years your in tank filter desperately needs replaced and your pump is probably about wore out too.

Look up the URD kit. It's well worth it.

Make sure your only use Throttle Body cleaner on the throttle body and mass air flow cleaner on the mass airflow sensor.

Do you use a K&N or other oiled type aftermarket filter?

If so I strongly recommend going back to a paper or fibrous media filter.

The oiled ones filter less and wreck havoc on your MAF and TB.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Pop the #4 ignition coil out and see if it’s dry or wet and covered in oil

OP, you might want to post a couple of pics of your plugs because "white plugs" can mean different things to different people. I had a 2.7 that ran perfect and could perhaps see if your plugs looked like mine. Also, are you using the Denso iridium plugs or something else?
