Bed speakers

Hey y'all. I am going to start on a project today that im not too sure how i should wire. I am going to be building 2 6.5" speaker cans each with a 4way pioneer, to clamp on to the bed bar in my bed. i would like these to be wired to a switch on my dash but i am unsure of how to wire it. I know it would be easier just to run a second amp(already have one for my sub under my drivers seat), but the problem with this is that 1. money is a little tight right now, and 2 i have nowhere to put it(i have my Yeasu 7900R under my passenger seat.) So the question is will just tapping into the speaker wires at the HU and running them through a switch completely ruin the sound quality?

Wiring to the HU will be fine and you should not have a loss in SQ, no worse than running the in cab speakers off the HU. If you are going to want to run them on seperate channels you will have to run the wires to seperate rocker switches to be able to turn it off and on, if you just run 1 channel, you can do it on 1 switch. I had built custom boxes that fit in the front corner of the bed and mounted them to the rail system and it worked great.

 

Awesome, ill probably just run one channel and bridge it to both speakers. ill just tap the headunit. Now should i just run a single speaker wire set, but just split one of the lies and run it through a switch? or run both pos and neg through a switch?

 

well you obviously dont need to run BOTH positive and negative through a switch... if you want half-decent power, you should really consider bridging two channels. if you use both rear or front channels off the deck and run them to the back, even if they go through the same switch, it will be fine. only thing is, you wont be able to balance the speakers left or right (not a problem, i'm guessing).

It is coming off a pioneer 4200dvd.

Ya i deff will. Ive got the cans made, just waiting on the speakers to get here.
