For those who are interested, my 5speed was appreciably winded on the drive from sea level to Santa Fe. It still did ok, but the fun of driving it was mostly lost. It was as if the power band was both reduced and shifted 1,500 rpms higher; I found myself often upshifting at redline, when I usually do so at 3.5 or 4k when at home. Still, rolling over the Arizona divide (7,300 ft) at 85 in 4th holding 3.4k on the tachometer with the ac on and the bed full is no small feat for what it is.
