    2010 tacoma trd off road / 2018 4runner trd
I have a 2010 2nd gen tacoma trd off road and my wife has a 2018 5th gen 4runner trd off road. Both are outfitted pretty much the same. 2.5 inch lift, bilsten 6112 886 springs in the front/5160 bilsten in the front, all pro ucas and same size tires. The 2nd taco and 5th gen 4runner both use the the 4.0L v6 so power is near identical. The transmission and gearing of the 3rd taco is subpar compared to the 2nd gen taco and 5 gen t4r.

Pros of the 4runner vs taco
    -much more enclosed space.
    -Rear disk brakes standard
    -nicer interior
-if you are doing some crawling over obstacles the the t4r has a shorter rear body. If your tacoma rear tires slide off an obstacle there is a high likelihood you will land on the on the bumper or bed. So a protective well thought out rear armour bumper is more critical for the taco
    -the mechanical 4wd selector.
    - unless you are coming from a 2021 taco with adjustable seats the t4r has it beat there too.

    Cons of the 4runner
The hood on the t4r is slightly annoying when driving off road. The hood has a raised center with a fake hood scoop. The taco trd sport's has a similar hood situation and is equally annoying when driving off road. The fake hood scoop on top of an already high center hood limits your visibility while driving on technical trail.
-the t4r nose dives during moderate to hard braking. Upgraded suspension lessens that effect but it is still noticeable compared to the taco.
-your exterior storage is limited to the roof.
    - because the t4r has a shorter wheel base bumps will feel more harsh.

In conclusion the only thing keeping me from trading in my tacoma is it is paid for, has low miles for its age at 86k and i have taken good care of it. I also think i would miss my bed but not enough to keep me from buying a t4r. I use my tacoma as a farm truck and would have to buy a cheap beater truck to fill that role if i sold the taco. Jobs like hauling 5 to 8 hay bales, fencing, some loose material like wood chips, gravel and dirt is best done in a truck bed. If you use your truck bed a lot that will be your main determining factor. If you dont the 5th gen t4r would likely suit you better.

First of all, they're overpriced. They have lower rating than other SUV. Not a good mileage. These're 3 RED FLAGS. And finally, you have to decide what will do with it (off road, daily driving) or going on vacation two times a year.

Yup. Still waiting. I think I might sell my truck before moving to guam. Guam prices still seem to be normal.

I took my 2017 TRD Off Road DCLB Tacoma with 62k miles to the dealer to see how much I could get and was able to get 32k for it. I think I paid 35k for the truck. I love my Tacoma, but that pushed me over the edge to get a 4Runner.

The car market is like the housing market. Great time to sell, but not a great time to buy. No big discounts
