Sometimes when I exit the truck and shut the door it will beep three times. When this happens I cannot lock my doors. If it doesn’t beep then I can lock my doors as usual. If it beeps, I can disconnect the hot lead from the battery for a minute or two then it will work as it should. Any ideas of what this could be? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This is a very long shot but....doesn't it do that when ever you leave the key in the vehicle? Like when i leave the key in there it beeps when i walk away and can't lock the doors so it doesn't lock the key inside.

If I leave my key in the vehicle and shut the door it doesn’t beep. The ironic thing is that it just randomly does this. Today for example, I was in and out of the truck approximately 15 times, and it did this probably 5 times. Yesterday though, I was unable to lock the doors all day.

A few things: you say you get in/out about 15 times. Do you leave the truck running with key in the vehicle or in your pocket? (if fob). The truck will always beep 3 times if it's running and you leave the vehicle with the key in your pocket and shut the door. It will do the same if you try and look it with the key inside the vehicle (althought i think this is one long beep, but will have to double check). If the truck is off, key in pocket and out of vehicle and the doors still don't lock, then you have an issue.

    Are you still under warranty?
Unfortunately they may not be able to duplicate issue and, more importantly, not repair it properly BUT this issue will be documented in the Toyota database.

A couple of simple things to try: change key fob batteries and switch key fobs. You do have two fobs, correct?

    Good luck.
Intermittent electrical problems are the worst.
Find a dealer that has a competent electrical tech who understands TIS and Techstream.

    Where are you located?

Yes I turn the truck off with fob in pocket, then when I shut the door it will beep three short beeps. At this time it’s as though my fob doesn’t work. I can turn around and place the fob inside and shut the door, it will not beep. I’ll disconnect hot lead from the battery and it temporarily corrects the issue.

Yes I have two key fobs with new batteries. I’m located in southern WV.

How far out of warranty are you?
If not too far away, ask the dealer if they'll Goodwill the diagnostic and repair.

First, check their reputation. Ask your friends and neighbors who may have used the dealer. You don't want some hack working on your truck. Regardless of whomever works on it check them out if possible beforehand.

Any aftermarket electronics such as security systems, etc. added? If so, remove them and see if problem goes away.
