Found a 2011 Regular Cab Tacoma 4cyl 4x4 with 190k miles on it. Wondering if since it’s a four cylinder it would be a good buy? They have service records and it appears very clean. Thoughts? Also includes K02’s and camper shell. Anything I should look out for or is the mileage too high. They are asking $11,800 in SoCal.

I bought a 2010 same truck 5speed and I love it for a lil work/yard truck. The body is a lil beat on this one and I’ve had to put a bumper and back window but I only gave 3,000 for it.

Depends on your needs. I would go test drive an AC or DC tacoma with a 4.0 and compare it with this one before making your decision. Don't want you to have buyers regret due to lack of room or power.

I’ve had both a v6 and a 4cyl so I know the power in each. I’m basically just looking for a daily driver/weekend camp rig and this fits the bill. Just worried miles may be too high but idk problems with 2nd gens with high miles.

I have also had both AC and DC and am fine either way.

Sounds like you know what you're getting into. That being said, you're not gonna go wrong with the 2.7 even at that mileage. They are super reliable. Price does seem a little high but then again you're in CA. I'm sure it won't have any rust!

I've only ever wished for a few more horseys in mine, but if I had the power of a V6 I'm sure I'd be racking up quite the tab at Conoco. Doesn't matter how I drive with 32s and a lift, I still get about 19mpg! 20 if I drive like grandpa but life too short for that. 4cyl magic, baby!:burnrubber:

190k isn’t bad as long as maintenance was always done accordingly. From what I’ve seen these 4 cyl toyota’s will run to 300k easy with basic maintenance. You’ll like the few extra mpg too considering how high gas is currently. I’d try and snag it for $9500-10k. Worst they can say is no

As reliable as the tacomas are, I would pass on a vehicle with that mileage and price. I expect to replace wear items but not after spending $12k-14k on it. 190k miles at that price is a no go for me.

I have the same exact truck. 2011 reg cab 4x4 2.7l auto. I’m putting pizza cutters on it because it’s so underpowered. I originally had pizza cutters on it, and it was amazingly peppy but when I put bigger tires on it, it made a very noticeable difference. Decreased off road capabilities, and killed MPG’s. My truck has 150k miles on it and I plan on keeping it til I’m 6 feet under.

I say buy it. It’s a RARE truck believe it or not. Can’t beat a single cab off road either...

I don't care what anyone says, I call BS on the 700k plugs. I'd be willing to bet they got swapped out by the mechanic at 300k and dude didn't know.

Back to the question - I'd say try to talk them down on the 4banger. Another posted made a good point about wear items needing to be done soon, such as timing belts, water pump, idlers, etc.

As others said... It's due for bigger maintenance tasks if not already completed. If you're not doing the maintenance yourself, you will quickly have >$15k into the truck at the asking price.

I'd say offer $8500 and just walk away if they don't take it. There are other deals to be had for a daily driver, including a civic and a sawzall to turn it into a cargo hauler.

Good points, but the Tacoma in question would use a timing chain..not a timing belt.

You are correct sir. I was thinking it was like the 5VZ-FE with a belt instead of chain

Not gonna lie, I double checked just to make sure even though I have the same 4 banger in my 2010..seeing as mine is getting a new frame I'm poring over the list of things that are easier to do while it's apart.

It worth buying. Those are great little trucks.

The only major issue I’ve heard of is a few engine have been known to burn oil excessively. Theory is, lack of maintenance, low tension piston rings, and low viscosity oil.

Buy more than likely the truck is FINE:thumbsup:
It is really rare you see that problem.

I’d be more concerned with the frame than anything else.

I would check for head gasket leaks. Honestly it should be under 10k - but if it was it would have sold already with the shell
