How many of us would drive loaded like this? I've thought about it but I'd have it tied down and have a red flag attached.

I do that all the time. I have a passenger hold it while I'm driving. Also attach a red flag to the back.

Pretty sure the red or orange flag is mandated by law if it's 3ft (?) off the edge of the bed.

Don't really care enough to verify but should be common sense either way

I’d do it, but I wouldn’t want to.

Now - Story time (It’s true)

I used to work for a small lumber yard.
We had a contractor pick up some 2x12x24. (Might have been loner, I forget)
I go to load him, and it’s a single cab F250 with the bed full of equipment. WTF?

This guy has small scraps of 2x6 laid out on the ground.
He says, “Lay them on those pieces of wood”
Ok, so I do. Still not have any idea what what going on.

The guys drive over top of them length ways. (Straddling them)
And then ties them to the front bumper some how.
Then the other side to the rear receiver.

At that point, I run back to the office and let the boss know what’s happening.
Boss man looks at him, then at me, and say “Did you help him loaded it?”
    I said, “No, No way”.
Boss man says, “Then let him go, it’s his problem if something happens”.

That was close to 20 years ago. When there wasn’t many phones with cameras.
Definitely would have taken a picture, or video. If for nothing else to CMA.

BTW, I have no idea why he only bought like 3 of the 2x12x24?

What I do in that situation is to make a loop strap hanging off the mirror and another two loop straps hanging off the bed rail cleats. Run the 12 ft board(s) through the straps the length of the truck. Place some padding between the boards and the paint and tie it up snug. If it sticks out past the rear hang a red flag on it.

I would not do what is being shown in that picture. That is death waiting to happen. Someone rear ending that truck gets a board through the head, chest or ...

I've seen guys carry long sections of pipe like that. Quite often actually.

Several years ago we had some strong winds during a storm that did a lot of damage. This guy was transporting his torn up metal building to the recycling center for cash.

Last weekend my bro asked for truck help picking up stuff he and his wife ordered from the orange store.

First trip it’s 2 huge boxes for a garage cabinet, a tool box, some odd sized lumber pieces, and 4pc 16’ long 1x1” molding. First I stuck the molding through the rear window. It was no way, just too skinny and long to be able to tie it down without breaking them. So the plan was to bring one of the huge boxes and the odd lumber for the first trip, then return with a saw to cut the long pieces down. We get it to his house, the toolbox box has a hole ripped in it, behind the hole is a big dent in the toolbox. Load it back up, bring it back. They were cool about exchanging it, and realized it was supposed to be 1 4’ piece, not 4 16 footers. He went to cut it while we brought the second toolbox home. We ended up making a total of 4 trips to 2 different locations to get it all to his house.

I just thought it’s really funny how I ragged on the dude for carrying a load that way, only to almost have to do the same. The odd wood pieces did stick out the back about 2’ so I played safe & stuck a red rag on the end.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Maybe a full steel belly pan to stop cat theft and pulls back to make a rear porch. That guy was brilliant or crazy. Bravo to him! Like the concept

I hate seeing a sketchy load like this. Y'all's pictures made me cringe. Strap that stuff down!

That's the heaviest 88 Honda Civic that I have ever hauled, I think with the trailer it was like 8000lbs.. That high clearance bumper with a drop hitch that was too short gave it that angle, when I dropped off the trailer the front tires were off the ground... I have a longer drop hitch now.
