Hey all, new to the forum!

Just sold my original (bought new) 1995 Tacoma (254,000mi) and got a 2021 TRD Sport Access cab 6-foot bed with manual transmission.

Before I ask my question, I will state that I did poke around here and other forums for info.

I started with 265/65R17 and went to 265/70R17 and I was aware of potential odometer and speedometer errors.

Unfortunately, I did not check some of these things before I put the new tires on...but here goes...

I was expecting about a 2mph difference between the Taco speedo and the GPS speed (Waze and speed box on iPhone). As in...the Taco says 60 mph and the GPS says 62mph.

But...all 3 speeds matched. Totally unexpected. Anyone see this before?

I'm looking into the Hypertech gizmo to recalibrate for the bigger tire size. Anyone try this on the 2021?

Do I even need to worry about it?

    Thanks!

    I wouldn't. I run 35s, I'm sure I'm like 5Mph off or something. I Never cared..

I hear ya. There's something wired in my brain though...makes it hard to ignore.

Factory speedo is usually a few miles above actual. Once you move up in tire size, then it's actually correct.

    Interesting…and good to know.

Would the miles on the odometer still be off (~3.3%)?

After doing some testing with the tacoma trip meter vs. Garmin gps. Vs phone gps, I’m seeing the tacoma odometer off in the 6-6.5% range. Strange considering the new tires are only ~3.4% bigger in circumference.

But, got my hypertech in-line speedometer gizmo in the mail. I’ll get that installed and see if I can get things dialed in.

Speedometers can be plus minus 2% per SAE spec. 2% at 70 mph is 1.4 mph plus or minus. Worry about something else.

    Right on bro!

Welcome aboard! I don't sweat the petty shit. I put gas in, and keep up on the maintenance.

And before my extended warranty is up, I'll get my dash cluster replaced. Sometime the speedometer is straight up, jacked up.
