I got a leak from my oem tonneau bed cover. The pictures show where the leak is coming from. There is a small hole underneath where I have lifted the "gasket". What would be the best way and product to use to seal this up?

Maybe try some black rtv sealant? or a rubberized glue. They have flex seal for just about everything else, but never had any luck using it myself.

I was thinking about black rtv sealant but I wanted members opinion on this to see if truly black rtv sealant is the best way to go about this.

Interesting. Just looking at my tonneau i was never under the impression it was watertight. And it never has been.

Yeah, I was under the same impression. There was heavy rain last night in Houston, TX. I came out this morning and open up the tonneau cover and my bed had a lot of water in it. I look for where the water possible could have came from and I discover the “gasket” area was where the water was seeping in through.

Mines been ok for the most part. Only when in severe thunderstorms with windy horizontal driven rain do i get some very minor leakage toward the rear driver side.

I believe all OEM covers leak. Mine leaks in the rain, in the car wash.
Don't leave anything valuable in there you don't want to get wet.

It's hard to make something seal well that can be easily removed. I never expected mine to be a perfect seal, just more about security when I have stuff in the back and need to make a quick stop at a store.

I hear a lot of members said that but for me, I never had a leak ever with the oem tonneau cover and I had it on my truck for about a year. I brought the tonneau cover bed new with 5 miles on it.

My OEM cover leaks quite a bit. Have been considered a Diamondback but my wallet has been holding me back!
Maybe plug up that hole with some butyl tape?

Butyl tape works well. Shapes to how you want it, stays elastic and can easily be removed.

I got some off Amazon for like 6-8 bucks and it’ll be more than you’ll need in a life time.

Take one look from inside on a bright day and you’ll see why it’s almost impossible to expect a seal. I don’t think they were designed to be water proof or eve resistant. As someone said before, more about giving you some level of security for stored items.

Really can't say the same with my oem cover. 99% of the time when it rains, or snow melts its perfectly dry inside the bed. Only in cases of heavy wind driven rain you'll notice some wetness on the driver side bed rails, and walls inside.

I have the Extang 2.0 trifold and it is very similar to the OEM. It leaks but I don't put stuff back the that can be damaged by water.

Being the first truck i had with a tonneau cover, i mentioned it to the dealer i ordered the truck from. When i took delivery of the truck they included a bottle of wolfstein's tonneau cover protectant....said to periodically treat your cover with it. Don't know if it helps, but at least my cover seals very well.

I'd try 3M Trim adhesive, however the OEM covers are not meant to be 'water-tight' only water resistance. You will always get some leak from heavy rain.
I use a water-tight container for items I don't want eor get wet. Works great.
