I do not suggest anything is for free, but think this still needs consideration. Yes, drag increases as the quad of velocity; not to be ignored, but aerodynamics is a finicky beast that never breaks laws of physics, but is also rarely simple. Why wind tunnels are indispensable to slippery design. My point is simply that the turbulence of the car has a varying and less predictable impact to the second bump, (the windshield), as speed affects the diameter of turbulent scroll off the front of the hood. At slower speeds, the air is laminar riding up the windshield, with predictable drag, so the formula might apply equally to the front of the car and the windshield. What about when the turbulent air off the nose, carries farther up the windshield, and a portion of the windshield is in thin air?

The windshield follows the nose of the truck, and similar to how following another vehicle can reduce drag, the drag contribution of the windshield would be a separate calculation, and is dependent on the characteristics of air fed to it, which varies with speed. The combined drag is always additive, and as the front of car drag increases as quad of velocity, the windshield may well contribute less with increasing speed, as it becomes sheltered by the leading 'truck', and portions of what was windshield drag, becomes increasingly enveloped within the drag at the front. Due to the relatively vertical front of the truck, is seems to me that at some rate of speed, the airflow impact of the front of the truck (impact bubble) would be so large that the windshield area becomes insignificant as a frontal area. This could apply again at a closed tailgate.

I would guesstimate about 20-30 hours. My truck was in the shop a lot longer but my intercooler and charge piping were different than the kit b/c of my winch.
I work slower than most too...

Things are getting a lot more dialed since our packages to streamline the process and address issues we had. With holidays, waiting on parts, etc it took me 4-5 weeks  I think if I were to do it again with complete familiarity I could knock it out in 2-3 days. Granted I’m also in a shop and have access to hoist and lots of goodies to help me along.

I was at a month as well, some time lost to ordering parts as well, some to ‘ugh, I don’t feel like messing with it today’. I am a novice so take that into account, not sure of your ability/drive. I think Bige got mostly done in 2 or 3 long days though, he may hold the record.

@OVTune sent logs, info, and a video earlier today. Let me know.

@deuceb before I forget, buy yourself some Fast Orange hand cleaner too lol you can thank me later

With all the times I've gone over this kit myself for various things, I've gone through half a bottle of it myself lol

I think I've found the source of my intermittent p0430 (driver side) o2 sensor code.

So, with the bolts as tight as I can possibly get them, there's just the smallest gap on the bottom lips of the flanges where they should meet. Some soot there too. Shifting the y-pipe while tightening helps but isn't enough.

I'm thinking then that the Toyota gasket inside, which sits in the recess around the hole and is supposed to allow the two flanges to come together and seal, can't do enough to create a full time seal and some air continues to get through.

So I went ahead and ordered more of those Remflex gaskets, the 2.25" versions (turbo-DP is 2.5") and I'll use those to create a good seal throughout the entirety of the flange surfaces.

That is what I used on my setup. Have only idled the truck, but didn’t notice any leaks.

Generally need to let the truck get through a drive cycle where it'll then determine if it needs to pop a code or not, or to remove an existing CEL.

@tonered gave me the specifics on the cycle once awhile back, can't remember the details.

But ultimately it explains why I have stretches with and without the CEL, as it runs through various conditions where it feels the code can go away and then come back.

Makes sense. I have CEL all the time now but that is because I’m running un-catted dump tubes with the Toyota 04B14 calibration.
I wish I hadn’t got rid of my stock primary cats now.
Oh yeah, turbos are off the truck. I can’t have this thing sitting around all summer. The wifey and I do the overland thing and I could tell she was getting antsy having the truck down as long as I did.

Good news is once I get a tune I can more than likely have everything back on in a weekend.

    Yeah I sold mine too

Absolutely understandable. Having the truck sitting without the tune leaves it unusable.

Hopefully you can get the tune and reinstall with enough time before your first trip that you have good time to run through map revisions and build confidence in the kit. The confidence building part seems silly but it really is a factor, you don't want to feel like you can't take the truck 8-12 hours from home for fear of an issue that you won't be able to resolve.

Yeah our big trip is in October which is when I really wanted to test them out. Southern Ohio to Moab pulling a 6x10 enclosed with 2 dirt bikes and all the gear. Curious to see how she did through the I-70 mountain pass.

Taking a trip to Colorado Springs in a month, only reason I'm not taking the Tacoma is actually just because the wife wants to bring her 4runner and start taking it on adventures. Our October trip will be the Tacoma again though.

The Turbo hotside to downpipe gasket (the graphite one) there will be a tiny little gap, because that gasket is thick

My turbo - DP connections are fine.

I'm talking about DP to Y-pipe. The sensor that gives the CEL is located right after that connection, and that's where I appear to need a full flange gasket rather than just the little donut piece that would normally be there.

Those Remflex ones are the same gaskets I ordered and will be putting in. The kit uses the 2.5" version up top at turbo to downpipe

Can confirm. Running Na for now.

I do plan on going back eventually. Heck I want to be running them now. But realistically the install took me January to March, being swamped with work, and it’s been sitting ever since needing a tune to make it run.

Without really having any clarity as to when the tune will arrive, I didn’t really have a choice. Truck needed to leave the shop and I wasn’t going to let it sit in the yard.

I ended up with a really nice install, duh cause I did it lol, and it was a learning experience for sure. I added a few things to the kit here and there that I will share once proved out.

But, for the time being, the waiting game is much easier done with a truck I can drive.

    Are you Brendan?

I'm confused who you are, I just got an email about 2 weeks ago about the install for the exhaust being done.. and sent multiple files and logs already??
