Hi everyone. I recently purchased a new SUV for the family and we ended up going on a journey and finding a dealer out of state in Colorado to place an order and waited a few months for arrival. So now it’s got me wanting a new Tacoma so I reached out to a few dealers here in the Phoenix area and some say Toyota isnt doing orders due to the parts shortage. Others try to offer me tacos with a 10k markup. I will not pay over msrp or unnecessary dealer add ons. I have no problem placing an order and waiting then paying to have it shipped to me if necessary. Does anyone have an dealerships they recently placed an order through?

I'm right there with you. However, it's a sellers market and if you can wait, you might be better to wait.

Yes, it is possible. I recommend contacting many different dealers by email and seeing what they can do. Just be upfront about what you want(pay msrp or less, color, trim etc,) and what you don't want(unnecessary dealer addons, etc). After 10-20 emails you should find atleast one who will place the order for you and work with you.

I had to wait 5 months from the time I ordered my tacoma, but it is so worth it. Being able to get the exact truck you want in the exact color you want, with the exact options you want is amazing. Just be prepared to spend some time looking for a dealer and putting in the effort to get it. A lot of dealers will be unhelpful because they just want to sell you something that is already on the lot. This was my experience. If any part of the deal doesn't work for you, just say NO and move onto the next dealer.

I intercepted an allocation through Earnhardt Toyota in Mesa on 9/21 and took delivery 12/11. Can’t say whether they are still doing that with the current market, but it is worth a try. I used the Costco program and they were the assigned dealer.

My experience with buying last summer was pretty much the same. No dealer really wanted to order.
What I had to do was send out emails to sales managers at a few dealerships within an hour from home. I let them know I what I was looking for with a few color options and what options and accessories I'd like but that was somewhat negotiable. I said how soon I hoped to close the deal with a significant down payment and that I'd contacted others looking for a competitive price.

One dealer stepped up with a fair price and agreed to find a truck for me. The first one they tried to get in from area dealers fell through but they did find the right truck with my favorite color and only a few accessory items I put on later. They were willing to place an order if they had to but seems like dealers like to find one in stock somewhere for you.

    none, yet
I am in CT and spent time on the computer going to different dealer sites. Found the exact truck that I wanted. They discounted by a couple of grand. Didn’t have a bunch of BS options. Rubber floor mats and LED ext/int light package, which they didn’t even charge me for. I did add bed lights, which they just charged me for the lights with zero labor. Purchased it over the phone. It was 600 miles away. My buddy flew me down with his plane and I drove it back. This was two weeks ago. The best purchasing experience I have ever had. Don’t let the scumbags dealers rape you. Do some leg work or wait. Big shoutout to Massey Toyota in NC. In the future, I will check with them first before purchasing, they won a fan. The dealers in my area have won an enemy... by the way I got two keys...

Wow thanks for everyone’s input. I did do tons of research, visited dealers, and spoke with many dealers for the new suv I just got. I found a forum that had posted good dealers to work with and that’s how I got in touch with the CO dealer to order. I guess I will just wait on a new Tacoma. I’ve already done all the stuff you guys have suggested with the previous car and I think I’m a little burnt out with sorting through all the bs and marks ups to find what I want. I guess it’s a waiting game for me. If I could find a dealer that would just let me place an order at msrp without any add ons and pay to ship it to me I would do it right now.
