What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

So this will be for like camping type things? Do you then put mosquito netting or some type of tent material that closes the gap during use?

 

It was past time to do some work.
Got my new suspension last week, so yesterday was spent replacing all the oils, filters, and spark plugs, cleaning the throttle body, and semi-annual wash.
I used mobile 1 75-90 for everything (except engine oil, hopefully obvious) and quick drive around the block and it was feeling pretty smooth with noticeable improvement in shifting. Not sure if they had ever been done in 130k miles, but for the most part they didn’t look too bad. Spark plugs were in desperate need of replacing though and had probably never been changed.

 

Actually more for work. I have the bed organized with a platform at the standard height and underneath it is a full length channel on the left for my dewalt saw stand, a hollow off center support that holds 3 levels and a clamp ‘n guide, and a drawer with a pully to haul it up to the cab or back out for my cordless tools. But getting to anything on the platform from the back only has always been a pain. The first 2 feet are fine but anything further forward involves a crawl up/over/through. This will give me access on 3 sides with enough height to get a slide miter or 10” table saw from either side (neither would fit through a windoor).1/2 the price of windoors, 1/4 the price of of a bed slide, less than 40lbs, takes up no bed space, can be raised with either compressor, stored tank air, bottled HP air, or ~ 2 mtb tires worth with a bike pump. GF is handy with a Singer so the camping option is also in play but I wouldn’t go to the trouble for that alone. My folks have a 19’ van conversion that would be more comfortable but less fun to drive.

 

Well, I spent most of the day yesterday trying to unfuck my wife's rear brakes on the Highlander. One of them is still dragging, so may need a new caliper and bracket, but the rotors and all the pads are changed. I really tried to lube up that one side so everything would float the way it should, but... c'est la vis.

Anyway. I just went out and put on the Dickie's universal seat covers I picked up from the Clearance table at NAPA when I was getting her pads and rotors. They fit great, albeit the passenger side wasn't meant for the folding seat, it still folds without issue, I just have to locate the folder lever by feel.

 

Do the seats have side air bags and would the covers allow them to deploy?

 

Yes and there's a big airbag tag on the covers in the picture. You put the airbag tag on the side of the seat with the airbags.

lolol, no worries. I'm going to cut the tags off now that they're in place (and I marked the inside with the right seat assignment in the odd event I take them off at the same time and need to put them back). $30 on the clearance table at my local NAPA. No idea if they're also for sale near you.

 

Nice price. Won’t need any until the Fia covers wear out but I’m more likely to use something like these than anything neoprene.

 

Nice. Thats a great plan. I am in the automation/industrial controls industry but beyond wiring things up and using solenoids for air lockers haven’t had much use for my talents and the access i have to cool stuff.

Have you noticed any increase in mileage?
Some people have reported faulty thermostats that never tell the ecu that the motor has reached normal operating temps. Effectively keeping the truck in warm up a/f ratios dumping unnecessary amount of fuel.. I'm just curious if you've noticed

 

You cut 2.5" off the steel fenders and 2" off the flares all around?

 

Installed a Bruteforce High Clearance rear bumper. Took my time and still finished in under a day. Real happy with how it turned out.
