    Before my cap arrives, I want to get the protective film for where the caps rubber seal contacts the tailgate. Going with the 8mil thick 3M brand but what width would be sufficient to use?
    The 2 inch wide or 4 inch wide?

    I did 2” and it fits just right. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to do 4” as you always lift the tail gate and that would help protect from scratches. Be warned it isn’t that easy to apply as the curve on the tailgate is ever so slight. Make sure you have a heat gun.
