I don't know if anyone else has done this but one of the first things I did when I got my tent set up was buy some grip tape and put it on the ladder. I ordered this and cut it in half length wise and it fits the rungs on the ladder perfectly. If anyone else is interested here is what I got.

Do you keep the foam in also? What foam have you been using on the top?

 

I’ll preface this with I have yet to spend a night camping with the foam, it’s a new addition.

And the foam stays in the tent. It seems like the real space saver is ditching the stock mattress. The tent still folds up with ease even with the memory foam in there.

 

Anyone ever toss their RTT on a Crosstrek before? Just curious to know what type of MPG those things get with one, now that we just ordered my wife one.

 

I averaged 19 on our last trip with the RTT on the Tacoma with about 1500 miles of driving. I guess we won’t even both with the Crosstrek.

 

What a weekend...



The RTT was pretty stout in some high winds.

Holy crap.. just checked the wind speeds. First night ... was intense indeed. No wonder it popped the spring rod out.



And last night was pretty high as well.

 

I finally got to use my Smittybilt XL for the first time this weekend at Lake Champlain.

 

Great weather this weekend for camping.

 

Did you get rained on? It rained for three days straight down here this weekend.

 

We were on Apple island and it went directly south of us. It rained a little on Sunday night into Monday morning.....sprinkling mainly, but overall the weekend was clear and sunny.

 

Had a last minute trip to a festival in the desert this weekend, RTT held up great in the desert winds while other peoples EZ-Ups and Tents were blowing over.

 

Question for yall... I have the SB Gen1 XL tent, with Annex.

The ladder. The extension, I don't know what you would call them, 'pop adjustment dial thingys'? That adjust the length and height...

The first available holes to set the length are pretty far down the ladder, and in most of my experiences, make the ladder have to extend to the farthest point of the annex. Just makes it feel awkward getting in and out.

Does anyone see an issue drilling adjustment holes higher up the ladder so that it doesn't have to extend that far?

 

Nope, I did the same thing when I had that style ladder and my tent was lower. No cause for concern.

 

are you talking about the 2nd of the two legs that slides down forming the whole ladder or are you talking about the extra add on ladder extension like this:

if its just the 2 pieces that make up the ladder I dont see why an extra set of holes would cause any issues especially higher up since the ladder has more to grab onto in the slides. This is always my gripe with the ladder on the tents. the lock in settings are always just too long or just too short for any place you camp.

Agreed. It's either way out there, or swinging under the tent.
