For me, it's not associated with anything (like dad's name or middle name) so it just... exists.

 

Same with mine. We did give our son my dads middle name though.

I really am the original, "Call me whatever you want, just not late for supper!" person. 35 years in navy, I'm called variously by my first name, last name, rank, and a slew of nick-names, including my middle name which I sometimes revert to when there are several other 'Johns' in the unit.
