So recently my Tacoma decided it didn't want to start.
2005 Tacoma extended cab manual transmission 2.7L 4cyl 220k miles
I checked the CEL with a code reader and the only code is p0335 Crankshaft position sensor. I replaced the crankshaft position sensor and pigtail. still won't start. On the code reader it shows the same code and on the live feed it reads the engine cranking at ~150 rpm but it still won't start. The connections to the wires all look fine as well.

Not sure which route you took but for any plug in electrical related sensors, always pay more and go with OEM versus places like autozone, o'Reillys,etc..Sensors from those places are a crapshoot out of the box and most are drawn to them due to the worthless lifetime warranty. The money you save will be spent on a tow truck.

I too have a 2005 2.7L w/ 221k, and "check engine" light just came on with that code. It runs like new and doesn't have ANY issues starting, or anything else... so this is odd. I tried to run it through DEQ today and that code stopped me :( For several years, I've used 0W30 Mobil 1, but last year for the summer I attempted to use 5W30 (the actual oil it's supposed to have) and several "cold" starts (temp in the 60s) it had very loud, but shortly-lived chain slap, rod knock or pistol slap - frankly, I don't know what caused the noise each time, but it sounded like an engine with no oil in it. "Check Engine" light came on, something about crankshaft retarder, etc. so I changed the oil back to 0W30 and the noise and code went away. NOW this, about a year later. WTH?
