75W90 with LSD

So it is alright to use the Valvoline 75W90 with LSD in the crankcase and front differential? I bought 5. I've already changed the rear differential.

 

I use Mobile 1 fully synthetic also 75/90

I’d probably avoid synthetic in the Mechanical LSD. As some guys get a chatter.

Its actually hard to find gear oil WITHOUT the lsd additive, i use it in all 3 in my truck, 120k miles, shifts in and out of 4wd and 4low with zero hesitation.

Needless to say, the LSD additive wont hurt a damn thing on any 2nd gen tcase or front diff let alone the rear diff.

 

Like @nd4spdbh said, it shouldn’t hurt anything.
And it’s going to be hard to find without it. Unless you run a different weight.

I thought you were asking about synthetic fluid in a Mechanical LSD.
Which, isn’t my recommendation. As some guys have gotten a chatter when using synthetic fluid in the mechanical LSD.

Motor oil goes in the crank case. Gear oil goes in the differentials and manual transmission.

Ya never know what someone might do.

 

I was asking about the front differential and transfer case. Sorry about that. I have an automatic transmission and used the Toyota transmission fluid.

 

I have the same question. Is it safe to use Valvoline conventional 75W90 on the front diff, rear diff, and transfer case? I have a 2007 with the mechanical LSD.

If you have the mechanical LSD then just make sure the oil has the LSD additive in it. Should be fine for the front diff and tcase too.

 

I ended up taking mine to the dealer for this service. The mechanic said I do not have the mechanical LSD and that he used the same Mobil 1 75W90 for the transfer case and both differentials. That was 9 months ago and I haven't had any issues with the fully synthetic Mobil 1 75W90.
