I appreciate it the topper was me and my brother didn't want to paint so we wrapped it. First time using vinyl and it came out fairly nice and has held up the abuse of the sun washes and some trails.

Haha...and I own 5 vehicles. I drive the Tacoma everyday and pretty much everywhere I go as I enjoy it....lot of my miles are in 4WD. It’s not so much what I do (as I don’t travel like a rep/sales) but rather my main office is 60 miles away and I usually go to my office 7 days a week.

I own a horse farm - fairly rural- where we are are 45 minutes from any decent sized city. However the trade is I can shoot rifles, pistols on my property without fear of hitting anyone and I can stand and pee anywhere I want and not have a neighbor call the police (haha)....pros and cons....the cons are high mileage.

I use my Tacoma as a farm truck pretty much too. Have horses and deal with all types of farm animals. What do you do at your horse farm?

Stock, with 265/75 R16, 10 ply tires, camper shell, and about 250# in the bed. 24 mpg indicated (the indicated mpg was very close to the calculated a few months ago). Of course, the last time I gassed it was at about 7000 feet and have traveled about 40 miles, up and down hills, to 5000 feet. As I recall, the truck usually indicates about 22 or 23 mpg with the summer blend of gasoline.

It's both, I would hazard, as an engine block sitting at -20 degrees C is going to take a lot longer to come up to operating temperature, during which time it will consume a richer mixture. This has been my experience as well.
Going from my own anecdotal evidence, unsprung weight (wheels and tires), and temperature make the biggest difference. I noticed an immediate 10% increase in fuel economy when I switch between my p rated 245/75 R16's on alloy wheels vs. BFG KO's (same size) on steel wheels. Acceleration is night and day as well. My summer fuel economy doing exactly the same trips as winter, is usually 10% better as well, tracked over 3 years.

Did a 500 mile round trip this weekend and averaged 16.5 mpg with cruise set just over 80 for about 400 of the 500 miles traveled.

Truck has 285's and a magnuson on stock gearing.
