So I was rear ended in the taco on Friday, luckily trailer ball took most of the damage, but was hit hard enough the Reese hitch actually bent the frame downward where it bolts to the frame. Still waiting to hear back from insurance on next steps but is this the end for my ole gal? Florida doesn’t always consider frame damage a total loss. What do y’all think

Boy that Lexus sure blasted you. Cellphone?

Anyway, even if your insurance totals it, that looks like a prime candidate to buy back and have fixed at a frame shop. When you get the reports back from the insurance company's inspector and estimator, don't just call it the end - I highly encourage you to take it to a real frame shop and have them tell you what they think, and make your decision only then. You also don't have to take the offer they give you for the total value, especially considering what current market price is on these trucks. Make sure you get to see all of the info and comps (comparable valuations) that they're using, and make a counteroffer (if necessary) based on similar vehicles sold or dealer listed recently in your area.

    Good luck!

If the damage is 100% behind the rivets then it can be saved. The 4 wheels should still run true.

Thanks man! I’m definitely trying my best to keep the truck! Hopefully since it’s non structural, (behind leaf spring and shocks) it can be fixed. Lexus had some pretty good insurance thankfully

Dammmmmn! They really smacked you good. Wonder how fast they were going? How are you feeling a couple days later now?

This is one of the reasons I never leave a hitch installed when not towing. It acts as a lever and bends the frame rather easily.

me and the ole lady are feeling okay thank you. The truck took the hit pretty well actually and I’ve always thought of a hitch as a defense for the back of the truck. But thinking differently now

I was rear ended like that in 2010 by a Tahoe that was going about 35+ mph and I was stopped at a red light. My frame took damage like that in addition to other body, springs, lightrs, etc., and literally broke the composite bed inside because of teh bent frame. Total damages were just over $22,000 and it did not get totalled. At that time my 2008 Prort 4x4 had a higher street value than the repair costs, so they fixed it. One part of the repairs was replacing the frame. One shop wanted to splice in a section of frame and I said no way, so I went to a Lexus dealership that has a huge body shop and they did the repairs the right way, and used certified Toyota mechanics for the work. I still have to this day and it's still as good as new at 186,000 miles.

Glad you both are doing well.

I used to think the same thing until one of my buddies was rear ended like you and totaled his truck.

So I guess the moral to my story here is; just because the frame is damaged doesn't autometically mean your truck is totalled.

It looks like the crumple zones of the frame took the damage, but you'll have to measure things out and see if the spring perches are ok or not. Maybe a good time for a frame swap... and stuff.

    U ok?

Going to need a frame. Not sure if it will total.Look at the cab corners to see if the bed hit it. Florida does not allow owners to retain total loss salvage if it does total.
