Hi guys I've got a 05 trd sport dclb 4x4 and had the leafspring recall done in feb. The dealership BobTyler toyota in pensacola fl did it and now the truck bottoms out on anything at any speed. Went back and have been fighting with them since feb and they basically said pound sand oh i put new shocks yellow Bilsteins 7 months earlier. Any suggestions thanks

Bottoming out on the bump stops or shocks?
    Hopefully it’s not the shocks:eek:

    Wow, that’s bad.
    I’d mean to sound skeptical.
But bottoming out on the bumps?
There’s quite a bit of room between the 2.

Are you 100% sure it’s the bumps?
Dab some grease on the bump. Then see if it transfers to the frame.
Somethings is wrong. Inverted springs isn’t uncommon, but it usually doesn’t cause truck to bottom out like you are reporting. Something is definitely not right.

That’s weird cause the leafs installed for the recall are actually an upgrade from the originals. I know a number of people who have had the new leafs under the recall and none have had any problems. You need to determine positively what parts are hitting what. Did the Toyota dealer drive the truck and experience the problem? If so what did they say it is?

A tech drove it a couple weeks ago and said it needed new leafsprings and that was him driving on the recall springs . Its awful the truck sags extremly lower from what it was and just beats me up with the jarring.

You had the new springs installed by Toyota about 4 months ago, and now a Toyota tech drives it and says your leafs are bad, what reason can they possibly give for not repairing or replacing the leafs? If that is the case the leafs are either faulty and should be replaced under the spring warranty or the installation was faulty and they are obliged to make it right. Wud up?

Not sure why they wont go any further its the worst customer service iv ever dealt with. I wish i had never had them do the recall because my springs before rode pretty good now its junk

Something ain’t right here. You need to go talk to the service manager . Have him put in writing what the problem is and cost to fix it, in other words a repair estimate. I have an idea he’s going to say it’s something other than the new springs. If he does say it’s the leaf springs then ask why they won’t repair/replace. Then if you think they should take care of it and won’t call Toyota Corporate Complaints at 1-800-331-4331. You need to stay on their ass until you get a satisfactory response. Again something just isn’t making sense here.

Have you owned the truck since new? Or is it possible a previous owner had installed an Add-A-Leaf or heavy duty leaf pack that you were not aware of?

If you want it “fixed” for good.
Don’t bother with the OEM springs.
Go with an aftermarket spring pack.

The TSB springs aren’t meant to ride any better.
They were designed to be less likely to break.

When a vehicle is manufactured from the factory, it’s designed to ride and handle a certain way.
The 3 Leaf pack and the 4 Leaf pack (TSB) effectively ride and handle the same.

Both will likely ride relatively flat within a short time of being installed.
Mine did, others have, and even straight off the dealership lot, some spring packs are already “flat”.
The flat pack isn’t a sign of “bad” springs. Actually, it can help with the ride in cases.
One being axle wrap and a hard ride.

In your case, it does sound as if something isn’t right.
I’d honestly consider going aftermarket and being done with it.
