They don’t want to waste money on those things because they know MT fan boys will buy whatever is offered.

I wanted an off road in the first place by the way, had to settle for a sport. No regrets though, love this fucking thing more every day.

    Pic for attention. :D

I got a standard trans with a remote start, it's aftermarket though (compustar 901 model) so I have to carry an extra dongle. My pockets are already miniscule and fitting house keys, truck keys and a remote starter is basically an impossibility.

If I was smarter I would have someone design+print a dongle to accommodate both the remote starter and the key (be it flip fob or not) but alas, I lack the knowledge and motivation to take on that learning curve for a single item; I'm not even certain if the 3D printing material is strong enough to last torsion and extreme temps (-40 to 40+C)

"They" would love to phase out manuals. It is much easier to program an automatic transmission to do better in EPA testing and get better mileage than a manual transmission. Because of the torque multiplication of an auto, half ton trucks can also boast higher towing capacity with autos. It's also easier to have a quieter vehicle for the same tests. CAFE standards are stricter every year, which is why even 1mpg is seen as a massive improvement for trucks, where automakers see the majority of their profit. Sure, less than 4% of new vehicles sold are manuals, but of that 4%, 10 vehicles make up the majority. Tacomas and Miatas, as well as Mustangs and Toyota BR Z's sell manual transmissions in disproportionately high numbers. This is one of the reasons "They" still make these vehicles available as manuals. I personally have heard of very very few destroyed manual transmissions in a stock vehicle. The same cannot be said for automatics.

    1% sold; 13% availability.
Manuals last peaked at 1 in 3 in 1980.
It's CAFE that will kill it.
Autos surpassed manuals about 10 years ago, in that regard.

IMO, it'll happen for the Tacoma when the auto is 8 or 10 speeds.

“They” will stop selling manuals in trucks when it doesn’t make financial sense. I love manuals in sports cars. Yes, had a manual BRZ, had a manual mustang, had a manual Miata, yes have a manual TR6 and Jeep. Heck, I even yanked the auto in my ‘94 Impala and replaced it with a T56 (manual). I have had three trucks with manuals, and two (including the Tacoma) with autos. To use a truck as a truck, I much prefer an auto. If I want to row gears, I drive my sports car. Car companies are in business to sell cars (make money) and autos do that.

I had nothing to complain about my MT 2020 TRD Sport, I put on Borla exhaust and the truck sounded awesome and drove great
sadly, my transfer case leaked/weeped and they dealership "fixed" it and it started again the next day. I sold it thinking that I didn't buy a Toyota for this crap.
Any of your 4x4 MT tacos built after 2020 has this transfer case leak issue? or I just got unlucky and it's an isolated issue?

Really wanting to get back into a Taco specially seeing the lime TRD Pro, but kinda on the fence about MT if the transfer case on MT somehow is problematic.

Bought a Sport for same reason as you (it being a uniquely Canadian MT quandary.) Great shot. Love 20 mile in winter - but how has it been these days? I keep imagining it getting busy as hell.

Didn’t Ford just launch a manual tranny in their all-new Bronco. And Jeep included one in their all-new Gladiator a couple years back, no?

You MT guys are more paranoid that “they” are gonna cancel the manual than can be reasonably understood, when the two biggest, most anticipated, new truck launches in the last couple years both come with a MT option.

When I was truck shopping I was only looking for access cabs. So at least I got mostly what I wanted. And at first I didn’t really care it was a sport and not an off road because I thought I’d be mall crawling and wouldn’t need the diff lock. And the salesman wasn’t super knowledgeable on sport vs OR. He never mentioned diff lock or a trac on the OR. He just said it was different suspension.

buttttt now I’ve gone down the rabbit hole and wished It was an OR.

kinda blows my mind Sport AC is the only way to get a long bed manual.... I think an OR ac would sell better. But maybe not cuz us fanboys WILL take whatever is available

I was actually going to get a gladiator over the taco but couldn’t find any manual Jeep’s or gladiators to even test drive. I don’t regret my decision to get a taco now though :)

Miss this days (80s and 90s) when you would see a Toyota pickup and know it was a manual. Once in a great while, you would get a surprise and it would be a auto. Now its just the opposite.

For what it's worth, the DCLB is about the same length as a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500, regular cab long bed (a couple inches shorter, actually).

Manual tranny will die with the increase in Hybrid and EV.

These systems are not particularly friendly for a manual tranny.

The Nissan Frontier had a manual for the longest time. The new 2022 Frontier won't offer it any more. I really doubt if the 4th Gen Tacoma will have it.

When there's no more MT trucks, ya'll will have to join the Marines, become vegans, and move to Texas to have something to introduce yourself with.

That is precisely why I purchased my 2021 Tacoma after I retired my 2006 Nissan Xterra Off Road with 305,000 miles last fall. The XTerra is discontinued, but I would have gotten a Frontier which used to have the same drive train, but they eliminated the manual transmission, leading me to my Tacoma. Their loss, my gain.
