Anyone do this in recent years? In about a year I'm planning in moving out to Europe for 12 months. I want my own transportation there and am open to other options but honestly the cheapest and best option seems like just shipping mine out there, plus in some of the countries I can take advantage of the overland/camping gear.

The main things I'm wondering is point of entry, registration, and inspections.
    - I assume that the point of entry will have a pretty big factor in the other two concerns, and right now I'm looking at Hamburg, Germany as the port to ship to. Can be easily flexible with that, just curious if anyone knows what might be the best option.

    - I won't have a permanent address, I'll be in monthly airbnbs throughout most of it. I do have some friends in the UK who would probably let me use their address if necessary, I just don't know how it works for medium-term stays with an imported vehicle.

    - Inspections... From what I've heard the driver/passenger tint would likely need to be removed, and tires cannot extend wider than the fenders. Apart from that is there anything else important to note? I've heard some eastern EU and Mediterranean countries they have strict rules on electrical systems where you cannot legally touch/add electrical systems without an EE degree. Is that something to worry about since I've got a large chunk of DIY electrical work? If so, anyone know the chances of my mechanical engineering degree passing as an EE degree over there? I figure if it's already installed it might be fine, but no idea.

Damn, that's a good question. I've always wondered about that. I'm here on a work visa. So my situation is different. You might want to check a Van travel forum. I'm sure there's some type of tourist visa. I follow alot of offroaders doing tours. There's got to be some kinda program for that. Sorry I couldn't be much help. If you do find any information. Post your findings here. Thanks!

I shipped mine less than a year ago to the port of Hamburg I believe. As far as paperwork it might be a little different for me as I'm stationed here but all it was current registration from the states, letter from the bank (still financed), or the title. I used shipoverseas.com dropped it off in Newport VA twoish weeks later it was here in Germany. If I remember correctly cost around 2000ish +- 100 or 2.

I will say this here in Germany they don't really have public land or any that I have found. They do have offroad parks and official places to go camping. Everywhere you go people will chat with you about the truck noting too bad. Some of the older towns will get you sweating a little because of the roads.

Ummmm I could keep going. if you have any other questions LMK.

    Hello,
I am also interested in more information on this. I just moved to the UK and want to import my truck. I read the information on gov.uk website but not sure I understood it correctly. Has anyone done it recently?
    Thanks

Also to OP what part of Europe are you going to. From what I read on UK site you can do a temporary import a car for 6 month dive it on US plate with out paying taxes or having an inspection.
