I recently purchased an A.R.E. CX series truck cap for my 2013 Tacoma d.c. w/ 5ft bed. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with it, however one concern of mine is the fit at the rear. There is a small gap between the cap's rear glass door and the tailgate (see pictures). Most caps I see on the road the rear door of the cap is flush with the tailgate. I would prefer this as it would create a seal from the outside elements as well as potential intruders.

Does anyone has a similar set-up, and want to share their experience? Is yours flush with the tailgate or is there a gap?

    Thanks in advance!

Maybe your cap needs to be moved forward a bit? Is the glass closing properly against the canopy/frame/seal?

Hey, I thought about that, but the fit looks good at the front, so I don’t know if I want to do that. Might be an option though thanks.

Mine looks pretty similar to yours, but I have a kb voodoo tailgate cap, so it closes up the gap. I got the cap before I put the shell on, so I don't know how mine would look stock. The ARE on my 06 won't let you push it into the truck, the ends use the bedsides as stops. Try unclamping the shell and give it a good push to make sure its sitting as far forward as possible as hr206 mentioned. Unless you're the hulk, you won't send it into the back of your cab. I'll snap a picture of what mine looks like tomorrow.

Thanks everyone. I took it back to the dealer and they pushed it forward a bit. They also installed a thicker gasket where the gap was that practically sealed it off. Issue resolved!

i have the same issue, light gap between the tailgate and door and havent put a thicker gasket.

Curious though. when you close the camper door do you grab the plastic part in the center or do you reach up and grab the turn handles? I'm assuming grabbing the center plastic part will eventually crack it...

I reach up grab the turn handle. Seems a sturdier method.

If you are talking about the plastic "flap" that goes over the tailgate then no, don't grab it and pull on it. It will eventually dry out and crack staring at the rivets and spreading down to the bottom edge.

When it cracks, and it will if you have it long enough or live where it's hot, some ABS glue will glue it back together but you'll need to put some sort of patch on it to actually keep it from cracking again. Mine has a couple of cracks that I initially tried plastic welding on and it didn't hold. I then tried the ABS cement. It's held for a couple of years but one of the cracks is starting again, I guess from the vibration. I'll cut a piece of ABS plastic and glue it on when it gets bad enough to annoy me. Your other choice will be to drill the rivets out and put another piece in.
