New truck customization

Has any actually customized a tacoma from the Toyota website and had it built the way you want? Was curious as to what the process is or if you need to have toyota "ok" the build first. Did a little bit of looking in the threads but haven't came across anything.

Basically you can order it, but with Toyota you wait for one to become available.

So if you want a silver dclb sport with tech, you "order it" but really just wait for one to be produced or you have a dealer trade.

I wanted a silver offroad access cab and it was found in 15 minutes and shipped to my dealer.

 

Yea. Some stuff is part of the build at the factory, other is installed at port or the dealer.

 

Port install is so confusing. The old trail team tacomas felt like a port special, just factory accessories blasted on.

I just printed off the config I wanted and gave it to the dealer to find. 2 months later I had it.

timelines and dealer willingness / ability to find things now is probably a crapshoot with the limited inventory.

 

My tundra got stuck at port. Apparently they install the rigid fogs for the port at port and they were back ordered.

it was so dumb.

 

I just picked up my order last Friday. Ordered in mid-Feb - factory installed TRD Leveling Kit, TRD Exhaust. Dealer added Intake.

 

Same but mine took 4 months, 2021 OR Red 6Spd Advanced Tech

 

I can offer that Gulf States and SE regions pretty much suck for 'special' orders.

Unless they already are holding what you want, you may be better off to shop elsewhere.

 

My local dealer in Springfield MO (Reliable Toyota) had an Army Green OR a few days ago.

when I was looking last summer I wanted an SR5 v6 4x4. Told the dealer I prefered Cement, Silver, or magnetic but would take any color except black or white if it became hard to find. They found a silver one the same day to try to trade but it sold out before the trade was agreed to with the other dealership. 3 weeks later they secured a trade with a dealer on a Cement sr5 that was still inbound, just didn't have all the port installed accessories I wanted. I took it despite that and put most of the items on myself later. being a little flexible and willing to wait in these times usually works out so it seems.

 

True statement.

Only chance you'll have at customizing is if the dealer can find a vehicle and do a dealer swap.

 

Do the "build" on the website, print it out, and take it to a dealer. From then on, it's between you and the dealer. (Some dealers are more accommodating than others.)

You don’t need to find one if you have the dealer get one from allocation
