21 TRD OR. Got in last night and something seemed off. Google Maps wouldn't go into night mode (set to be automatic, always worked before). None of the button/switches around the vehicle had their backlighting on. The climate control buttons had the little green lights indicating they were selected, but that was it. Blue shift position light very bright. Headlights came on while set to auto, but the vehicle very clearly wasn't fully switching to night mode. Today (during daylight) I tried covering up the ambient light sensor and upon doing so, the display in the instrument cluster dimmed but all other problems still present. Any guesses?

    Yeah.
I don't have a '21, but there are a lot of settings on the head unit. Might check there, or might be a problem with the head unit.

But would the head unit control the backlighting for all switches and buttons? It seems strange (but not impossible) it would control the little blue shift position light. Can't find any blown fuses. Will have to try with an iPhone tonight after dark. What a small but so annoying problem.

    Yeah.
Pretty sure there is a setting in there somewhere, but I have an '18 and I know they've done some upgrades. As a last-ditch effort, you could try disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes.

Headlights come on in auto or manually without problem. However neither method changes any other interior setting. Was digging around the settings in the head unit, but couldn't find anything useful. I do have the anytime camera but I just removed it to see if it was the culprit. No change. Battery is currently unplugged, we'll see what that yields. I appreciate the help guys!

Check your manual for where the dimmer for the dash lights lives. I *think* it’s on the dash to the left of the steering wheel but I may be wrong. I haven’t driven my Taco in a couple of weeks and don’t remember where it is on our trucks.

And there you have it. ‘Check first where the human was last’ or however that saying goes. Something got messed up here. Revert back to full stock, and if issue persists, take it in for warranty repair.

I wonder if people don’t list their mods right away on ‘I have ____ problem’ threads because deep down they suspect that the mod messed something up but don’t want to admit it?

Anytime mod has been on for months without any problem (still works) yet the interior light issue is new. I did just remove it and the issue remains. Methinks it's not the cause.

The trip reset button/knob by the speedometer can be rotated to adjust the brightness. Give that a shot.

It doesn't necessarily spin, but as you rotate it, you'll feel a click.

If you’re referring to apple carplay google maps there is a setting on carplay itself to control whether it auto switches dark mode at night, always stays light mode, or always stays dark mode.

I think I found the culprit. In continuing to hunt for fuses I did find a burned out 5A PANEL in the back of the interior fusebox. I completely forgot about it being under there. Covered up the light sensor and voila: the head unit, cabin temp monitor, shift indicator, etc finally dim. I will check later (too bright to see) if the backlighting is working. Thanks for the help everyone!
