Looking to track trans temps for towing, do I need the MX for any reason?

Lifted from the description of the mx

The UltraGauge MX v1.4 has all the features as described on our main page, except that the MX has the added ability to access non-standard manufacturer specific gauges, such as transmission temperature (if supported by the vehicle).

Seems as if the em reads more generic read outs. Whereas the mx reads the specific stuff. I know you have to select tundra/tacoma can when I ordered my mx for my 14. My foggy memories leads me to believe that is specifically why I ordered the mx

I purchased the MX, unless things have changed in the last 6 months, you need to add the codes to get the tranny pan and TC temps to read.
    Pretty easy to set up.

    Not on the Ultragauge website?

I ask because Scan Guage has all those extra PIDs on theirs. And MPGs is a basic readout for them.

Seeking mpg codes? I thought the only ones needing to be added/edited was the trans tc, trans lock up, and trans pan. Maybe I am misunderstanding.

When I set mine up, I just had to select the gauges under the page settings. All of the mpg gauges are already on the device; its just a matter of selecting them and making sure that page is enabled.

The trans codes are different between a couple model years, which is why those sometimes require tweaking.

Also important to note. For mpg readings to be accurate, you will first need to calibrate distance. And then calibrate mpg. Screenshot below are the procedures from ug. I calibrated my distance a different method using gps. See second screen shot for that method.

Does the Miles to Empty need to be reset every time you fill up?
Mine is not resetting though the Tacoma computer resets at fill up.
    Am I missing something?

Each time you fill up, your going to want to hold the up arrow to trigger a “tank fill up” on the ultraguage. Ultragauge doesn't read fuel level since the PCM doesn't receive that info from the sending unit, so without triggering the tank fill function, it won’t know you filled up.
