New member! I’m sure I’ll have lots of questions. Selling my 3rd gen 4Runner...and Planned to sell my 08 Tacoma base—because I bought a 13 TRD Sport. Thought the 13 would be the best of both vehicles. But now my brother & mechanic say never give up my 08 base. (271k miles at present.) Can someone explain why?
    Thanks in advance!

Update: I sold the 2013 double cab after just a few months of ownership. It was a fine truck, but I couldn’t get rid of my little regular cab and didn’t need two vehicles. Here’s to 300k miles and beyond!

Are the 08 and 13 both the v6? The 2013 is an improvement over the 08 given the facelift the Tacoma got in 2012....other than that they're virtually the same rig minus whatever options might be different between the two.

I think the 2008 was the last year of the mechanical limited slip differential in the Sport models, but if it isn't a Sport then that's not applicable.

No, the 08 is the 2.7L/4cyl automatic. Manual windows & door locks. Totally stripped down basics except cruise control. The 13 is the 6cyl, has all the bells and whistles for its model year.
    08 has 271k mi
    13 has 73k mi
That’s why I’m confused about why brother & mechanic are saying keep the 08.

Ah that makes more sense now, they're probably encouraging it because it's so simplistic and without any electronic features that tend to make more modern vehicles unreliable with age.

Getting a bare bones truck like that nowadays isnt easy

Aha, fewer failure points. Makes sense. Defeats my purpose though, which was to streamline to 1 vehicle. Someone should be happy with the 02 4Runner, at least. Definitely can’t keep 3... or can I?
