For sure, I thought about doing mechanical also, cause I like knowing how thing work and such. But there’s not really many options for that where I wanna live.

Doing environmental gets my out of the office and the demand is only going to go up, atleast I think.

And I can work in just about any industry, currently working for an oil and gas company.

Ha. That’s what the graphing function on excel is for!

And when you want all the data to matter: regression equations!

Like someone else mentioned, apply anyway even you dont meet the requirements. You may have a tougher time finding a true engineering position since you have yet to graduate.

I would look out for production/assembly and QC positions as well. Getting relative experience is important, it may not be behind a computer but you'll gain practical knowledge of design work.

Computer tech early in my career, did some engineering on the dotcom side, and some sysadmin. Moved and had my own computer consulting biz for several years. Ditched it all and now I make custom stuffs from wood. Far less user complaining now!

A little here, a little there.
I've got two Bachelor's of Science degrees: Electrical Engineering and Applied Mathematics. I've done a lot of things from troubleshooting and repairing communications systems for aircraft, to designing and building automated test systems and software for networked DSP systems in the Pro Audio industry. In the last almost six years I've been a software engineer working in the aerospace and defense industry. My current role finally lets me use more of my applied mathematics background, which I love.

Materials Engineering degree, first job out of school was survivability engineer blowing up MRAPs before we gave em to the troops. In 2014 after the initial "draw down" survivability dollars went away and safety dollars took their place. Been working systems safety engineering for various DOD efforts mainly focused around weapons systems explosive safety.

Wow, why are chemical engineers so scarce here?

I'm a process safety engineer for an energy company at a big downstream site.

Because ChemEs spend too much time trying to analyze the data instead of taking a break to browse the forums.

I’m kidding, but not really kidding. We’ve got 3 PHD ChemEs, 4 Masters ChemEs at my site. Half of them need to get their noses out of their computers and go walk out to the plant and talk with production because they have no clue how crap really works.

Just stumbled on this thread. Bachelors in ME and work in the data center industry now. A little bit of mech, a lot of electrical, and an understanding of computer networking is a typical day. 17 years ago when I started school I would have never guessed I would end up here but it’s been awesome and I would recommend the industry to anyone that is curious.

In my last semester finally, still need to take the FE though. Have been interning for an oil and gas company for the last 2ish years, pretty confident there's a job offer coming soon.
