My bushings are torn and the ball joints are leaking. My 2009 Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4 has 210,000 miles on it. The Toyota dealer quoted $1,428 (SF Bay Area) to replace.

Should I be worried? The truck does not leak anything on the driveway.

In Canada the OEM LCA is 1000$CAD for the set. Includes the bushings and LBJ. Very easy to install but you need a full alignment afterwards....

Your ride will be more springy and more vibration due to the bushing failure. The LBJ will make more clunks and slop in your wheels. EVENTUALLY your wheel will fall off but that’s probably a long ways off...

Personally I would have the work done when you get a chance.

also your CV angles look pretty severe...

I'd be down to help you remove the lower control arm but we'd need a shop to swap the bushing. Send me a DM. I'm in Marin.

at 210,000 miles for a cost of $1428.......seems reasonable to me. Cost is less than $0.01/mile.

If you do end up changing the lower control arms. Very likely the cam bolts are seized on there and have to be cut off.

Yea I had to cut mine out on a 6yearold truck. All the bolts and cams ended up being roughly 350$ CAD unfortunately… I could have reused a couple but it’s hard to know before you get in there.

I decided to get the work done via Toyota. Also, the CV angle looked that way because the photo was taken while the Tacoma was on the rack. When it is on the ground, it looks normal.

That looks like normal weep from the LBJ, did the LBJ have any signs of slop or wear in it (easily felt by jacking the truck up and moving the tire). Dont spend money you dont have to!

Question should be asked is which part to go with and whether stuff like Moog and mevotech is good or not. I hear mixed things about Moog

Way before I put ony on my total choas lowers control arms I put on a full movotech arm due to a bushing failure I ran it for like 40k before swapping to total choas and had no problems with it. And the arm only costed me like 250 cdn

I've replaced the lower ball joints on 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas. Usually charge about $275 labor. Replacing the whole LCA is the best option. At your mileage the LCA bushings are worn. OEM is best.

My passenger side was replaced under warranty, now a few years later my drivers side looks exactly like yours OP. I remember the cost of my passenger one as like $1400 at Toyota so but I don’t want to pay out of pocket for that now.

My truck only has 80,000 but is 11 years old. I’ll probably wait for now. Stupid how it wears and you gotta replace the entire LCA
