Hello TW, I am about to ask you guys all yet another 'engine noise' question amongst the other possible thousands of inquires out there. But i would like to preface that i am aware of the Direct Injection, D-4S, and other systems associated with the engine and this is my second 3rd gen I have owned. Recently however i have noticed that my truck makes this knocking noise (which sounds almost exactly like the 4wd actuators, but aren't and have nothing to do with the 4wd system it just sounds like it but coming from the engine) when it is cold/ just started up. It sounds absolutely horrible too like something is loose or broken it almost sounds as if someone is tapping or drumming to a beat of a song inside my engine as it does not happen consistently with the engine but rather arrhythmically. I have taken it to the dealer and im scheduled to have it looked at as the service advisor listened to my video and agreed that it did sound weird and that it is worthy of being checked out.

a/c system and air was completely off. Please have a listen:

Are you talking about that higher pitched, loud crack or tap that only happens a couple of times during the vid?
If so, and you say you notice it from a cold start, it could just be the sound of parts such as the exhaust near the heads heating up.
    Maybe?

For a new truck sure is a noisy sucker. I've got 10k miles on my 2020 it has more mechanical sounds but its not close to that.

Update: it happens consistently at the first hash mark on the temp gauge before it warms up completely
