I would say, based on what Ive seen, if ur planning to buy a new or used vehicle outright without any trade in now isnt a good time. If u have a good trade it seems the increase in trade allowance ur given makes up for the current lack of rebates and discounts.

I’ve noticed quite a few dealers around here showing 10+ trucks on their website but only 2-3 on the lot. When I looked closer at the dealers online inventory, most of the trucks show “Natl”. Which I believe means national inventory and the truck is at some other dealership but they could access it if needed.

Yup. Supply and demand. No supply, I wait.

Once there is sufficient supply available again, dealers will try to ride the gravy train as long as possible. Not selling their inventory fast enough will get prices back to negotiable levels again. When that will be, is any ones guess.

In the mean time, take care of what you do have. Be a bit more eagle eye and careful while driving to avoid unnecessary accidents that could leave you in a "need" position that could cost ya dearly.

I would guess that most dealerships will weather the storm. Wonder how this is impacting the smaller dealerships, if those exist anymore.

Car crashes seem to be on the rise.

I was at my nearby Toyota dealer today getting an oil change in the wife's 4R. They happened to have five new Tacomas, which a salesman immediately jumped out at me. He said this is most they've had at one time in months, which I had noticed how few they've had over the past year.

    I wouldn't say this is bare bones, it's a 4x4 Double Cab.

    I paid $32k for a bare bones 2WD 2.7 AC in Feb.

Same thing. Smart guys resist impulsive buying of something as expensive as a new vehicle that’s priced way over the sticker price. Haha

Just a side note: I've been watching these guys for a while now. Seems very informative. I may even pony-up for a subscription next time I'm in the market.

So I shopped around. First was a costco deal through local dealer. Offered me MSRP nothing else but said I could even order one if I like. So not aweful.

Then I messaged the dealer I bought my last 2 Toyotas from. This scum fuhker emails me back and says we have a great selection but every car on the lot has a $4500 market adjustment. I straight up said your managers should be beat with a belt, and when things do get back to normal people will remember assho-le chains like theirs. FYI AutoNation.... yeah Fuhk them for that quote.

Supply and demand is everything. People don't realize there really isn't that much money to be made on new vehicles. Money is made through volume (yes, add ons help, but don't pay the bills). When there is no volume due to lack of inventory, prices go up. That's the case with any product or service.

Dealerships aren't cheap places to run. They have dozens to hundreds of employees that have to make a living, big spacious showrooms and waiting rooms, with free wifi, water, coffee, etc...that customers absolutely demand these days.

Dealerships are not the Salvation Army. They are for profit businesses....just like every other business.

It's kind of strange. I could swear that there were some laws enforced recently during Covid, when retailers were taking advantage of shortages and hiking prices. Does that not apply to ALL retailers? and all shortages?
