New to the forum. I'm a current owner of a 2014 TRD sport prerunner. I'm getting ready to buy a new Tacoma and have decided I want a 4WD army green and no chrome. I can go for the limited, but it has chrome handles and grill. How hard would it be to swap these out? I get the feeling the TRD sport would save this hassle but I'm not sure.

I'd want a better stereo then my 2014 as well. Is the upgraded sound system worth it or is aftermarket the way to go?

I'm already planning on aftermarket wheels and a tonneau cover, and I don't have a problem with doing it myself to an extent. I'm not going to be doing any hardcore off-road and it will be a daily driver. Minor towing is possible. I intend on owning this truck at least 8 years or more.

Any pointers/advice to help me pick my package? Thanks.

Check out the threads on blacking out the exterior and interior chrome on the TRD's. There are a number of overlays and substitutions available. (For example, I didn't like the chrome tail lights on mine, so I substituted the tails from the SR/SR5.)

If you don't like chrome, then definitely don't get the Limited.

I'm not an audiophile, so I can't help you on the sound system. My non-JBL radio does the job for me.

TRD Sport or Offroad in Army Green. If you want the best stock audio system, you'll need a truck configured with the Premium Package.

Oh, and the LED headlights option is a must.

2020 Pro Army Green has nearly everything blacked out. Also comes with the JBL audio.

I will second going with the Pro - already black and while I've never heard the standard stereo, the JBL system in mine is pretty decent.

What does the Limited have that you're looking at that one?

If you buy new, it shouldn't be too much of a hassle to remove the chrome badging on the sides and back. Little bit of heat and some string, then clean it off with goo gone or whatever you prefer.

The exterior handles are fairly easy to swap out. I've swapped out all 4 within a few hours time. The handles with sensors do cost a significant amount more than those without sensors. You can't just swap the sensor module between handles, unfortunately.

Interior chrome, easy. I've left the interior door handles alone. I tried the MESO covers, wasn't my thing.

Grille, again easy. Only a couple bolts and pins, then disconnect some wiring and it comes right off.

If your new radio is going to be JBL, it is better than stock, but some still complain. It's harder to swap out parts if it's the JBL system. It's doable, plenty of people have done it, but can be a bit more work. There is an upgrade offered by @oemaudioplus though.

Right now, the website won't let me pick green on the pro or sr5.

I'm not sure there's anything there I really want, to be honest. I'm rethinking the stereo, since it comes with stuff I'm not really that interested in. Probably a better option to upgrade it on my own.

Green on the Pro was only for the 2020.

It doesn't offer green on the pro at the moment. I'd definitely consider it if it was available.

It also doesn't offer a Pro in an Access Cab or long bed.

I went through the web site process back in October and the TRD Sport was the only way I could get the features I wanted. Toyota really puts you in a straightjacket.

I didn't reply too much, but you all gave me some good things to thing about. I finally decided to get the TRD Sport in 4WD, with the blackout package. I got upgraded audio and the led lights. I'll change out the few bits of chrome on the outside and get some new wheels. The good news is my dealer found a unit close to being built on the line that was pretty close to what I wanted, so we made a couple of changes to what I wanted, and it should be starting up on the line in only 2 weeks. I take that loosely, but it is still faster than the alternative.

I can't wait for it to get here, and now I need to start shopping for wheels, all weather floor mats and a flush mount tonneau.

    Thanks everyone for the replys.

So happy I got my AG 21 AC TRD OR when I did. Slowly going thru with blacking things out. I removed the badges on my, much cleaner look. Did the tailgate inserts as well. Pro faux grille will be coming soon. The AG and black go very well together. Definitely follow the Army Green Team thread

Will do. I think I have wheels picked out, and I'm going to have to wait until it arrives before I do much more.

I have a feeling selling my 2014 won't be too much of a problem.

Buy the color & options you want. If you can't find black covers for the chrome, PlastiDip is your friend.
