Finally tackled a rear end roaring noise on the Prerunner I bought in March this year. Turned out to be the driver side rear axle bearing. The bearing wasn’t loose but made a roaring noise above 25 mph. When I spun the bearing with the axle removed it was noisy. I changed both rear bearings with koyo bearings and housing assemblies. I have to say it was a little bit of a challenge, even with the special tools and 20 ton press. The rear inner axle bearing was a real pain to remove. Got it all back together and the noise is gone, so much quieter now.
