Question regarding Door speaker install

Okay I upgraded my ‘05 GEN 2 Tacoma with an

$280 Alpine ilx-W650 7" Double DIN Touchscreen Digital Multimedia Receiver with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Alpine ilx-W650 along with the

$220 KTA-450 4-Channel Power Pack Amplifier with Dynamic Peak Power 45W RMS x 4, at 2 Or 4 Ohms

KTA-450 amp and put Infinity Reference 9630cx in the front doors and Reference 6532ex in the rear.

The little tweeter that came with the 9630cx leaves little to be desired. I was thinking about putting back the original factory “mid-range tweeter” or whatever it is called…it was the original one where I replaced with the little tweeter. It is 4 ohm 17.5 watt speakers and has a much bigger magnet.

Can I simply wire these to the Infinity crossover where it says TW for tweeter or will I have to double up on the crossover with the WF woofer section where I have the 6x9’s wired into?

I have pictures below showing the speakers I am talking about.

Am I going to have to purchase some “3 way” crossovers to do this or can I simply put the midrange 3.5” factory speaker wires in the WF section and double up with the wires to the 6x9’s?

 

What are you trying to fix? The Infinity components were designed to provide full range and magnet size is irrelevant. If it sounds wrong, try to find out why.

Nothing you’ve suggested is something I’d recommend.

 

I do not like the supplied tweeter at all and prefer the midrange 3.5” speaker that used to be where I put the new small tweeters. I find the 3.5 mids complete the sound much better even though having less highs.
The tweeters add highs…but leaves a gap of sound where the 3.5’s were…I just really prefer having a mid range speaker on the front of the door panel where the stock mid speaker used to be.
I can always put the tweeters up front later on but I do not care for how teeny they sound…too bright and hollow sounding but I realize they are small tweeters. Sure they provide highs but just too teeny sounding for me.

I can always upgrade the 3.5 mid speakers later on too right now I am just curious to hear how the factory mids speakers sound over the Infinity tweeters.

 

What did you set the attenuation setting on the crossover to?

Here’s the deal. If you want mids/highs to be staged higher in your truck, you bought the wrong replacements. 3/4” tweeters are crossed over at a higher frequency because they can’t reproduce midrange due to their size and power handling. Consequently all of your lows and mids are in the lower door woofer. I can’t find what the crossover frequency is for that set in the manual but I’d wager it’s at or above 4K, basically just the frosting, and it kind of sounds like you’re disappointed in the response of the woofers because it sounds out of balance to you, and probably is.

You should verify the crossover isn’t set to +3dB, but you’ve also complicated the matter by essentially surface mounting them in your face. Putting them on a mounting plate behind the factory baffle will soften and disperse their response, blending them more evenly. I don’t know if the 0dB setting is enough to overcome how you installed them.

If you are going to try and mix/match the factory wide range speaker with some of the infinity components, there’s nothing stopping you, but without a DSP and good crossover settings, time/phase alignment and more channels of amplification, it will just be more wrong than you already have it. Doing something like that would be planned out, intentional, and not a last minute remedy for botched decision making and mediocre installation methods.

 

I installed 3.5 inch infiniti's in that location all it took was some grinding of the stock bracket. I wired it up just like the tweeter was and also have the alpine power pack and it sounds amazing. Oh and i have Pioneer 6x9's on the bottom.

Okay…I’ll mess with the eq more.Actually I have them on a mounting plate behind the factory baffle on an actual swivel where I can push the tweeters more up and away towards the dash or just the opposite…I just have not put the original baffles back on just yet until I know I have them angled where I would like. I installed them exactly how Crutchfield told me to. I currently have the +3db pushed in…so I will definitely push that button back out.

Im just so used to hearing a midrange 3.5” speaker up on my door and not only getting lows from behind me and on the bottom door.

again I still have tons of eq’ing to do so I’m not giving up on these just yet.

Im also still waiting for a decent subwoofer to be shipped from Crutchfield…that’s going to change so much as well.

Problem with wiring up the tweeter just like the original is that those wires are now dead wires going to a 14 pin connector that the new head unit does not use…so I had to splice some extra wires to the hot wires…left side pink for positive violet for negative…right side green for positive…blue for negative and use those to plug into the “input” part of the crossover…the new tweeters obviously just go straight to the crossover labeled TW + and - polarity all correct.

The original bracket was way too bog only one bolt could fit…so I got a plastic mounting plate and drilled a 1 1/2” hole for the tweeter and it fits perfectly. I have them on a swivel so I can angle them differently.

Here is how I have the tweeters mounted…again they are on a swivel so I move them around then simply lock them in place…I’m waiting on deadening material so I can deaden my doors as well…but regardless obviously I have a lot to learn about proper eq’ing.

Alpine ilx-W650 which really confuses Crutchfield). …but I fixed my problem with only having rear speakers working by splicing into the hot wires that do indeed connect to one of the connectors going into the Alpine head unit. All working speakers now.

 

I will definitely look into these…can I simply just wire these straight to the crossover box where it says TW for tweeter? Obviously I’ll have my polarity correct…or would I solder them right to the input wires that lead all the way to the back of the head unit and gets plugged in the head unit? I’ve been checking out your thread and adding a bass blocker seems easy enough…so essentially these mids will be working on their own and not through a crossover? Or is this where I will be sharing crossover slots with others…I’ll try searching the net and will talk to crutchfield about this before I do something like this.
I have no doubt I need to do a lot more eq’ing but I still like having a mid size speaker in that spot as that small tweeter just lacks the power of the original 3.5”

 

Well…I started messing with the 9 band eq…this system has come to life!!!
I still need to mess with the cross overs and the timing but oh my God night and day difference…without a subwoofer sounds incredible…thank you for the advice with eq’ing more.
I’m happy.

 

I didnt have any issues with wiring it the orginal way i get full sound and lots of power. I'm going to install an aftermarket unit pretty soon i want an actual EG with adjustments. But i have no real complaints on the sound quality i have.
