[Update: recovered!] Tacoma Stolen in San Francisco...

I had to do the same thing 3 years ago last month. Somebody felt that I didn't need the truck anymore

Sorry to hear it... Did they ever find your truck? Hope your new ride is twice as sweet!

 

Yeah, they found it about 4 months later in Palmdale area along with 6 other trucks in a warehouse. 2 guys were out driving mine and highway patrol followed them back to the location.

JaCado, I was reading the the thread with the suspension explanation you wrote up for that old guy. I learned a lot from your post, thank you! And your new truck is amazing with the bed accents!

Update for folks in the bay area... Please be vigilant if you have a Tacoma in the city, especially 2nd gen. Truck is still missing, not a peep from police or insurance or anybody.
I hope she's still being taken care of, when they nabbed her and she was in amazing mechanical shape. I would have to imagine she's south of the border or stuck in a container sent off somewhere crazy.

Nope. Mine was stolen and never recovered. @JaCado had his stolen and recovered after 4 months.
Most stolen vehicles turn up in a week or two but mine has yet show after 9 mo.
Bought a new truck and I'm still hoping my 2005 will one day come home but it's not looking promising...

 

She’s been found!!!

I’m scrambling to get all paperwork in order and a flight down to SF, but she’s safe now and the police officer said she looks great!

She’s in relatively great shape! She needed a brake job back in august so now it’s getting urgent… other than that someone smogged her 10 days ago and passed! I have to say with the relative light damage that’s apparent at the moment I’m one lucky sob for having my truck stolen for almost a year!

FYI, she’s a 2wd TRD Prerunner off-road with rear lockers and is under 80,000 miles. And she’s now for sale!

thats wild where did they find it? So someone had it but was driving with a different plate or what? Crazy it went a year without being spotted. congrats on getting it back.

Congrats on the recovery. I see you liked it so much you basically bought a new one just like it but 4x4. Nice.

 

It was stolen in the Marina district but was found in Daly City. It was uncovered by a DMV Detective, I never knew they had field officers! From what I can gather, someone wanted to resell it after buying it off some wacknuts (maybe the ones who stole it initially?) who vouched that it was legal even though they had no pinkslip. The people who stole it found paperwork in the glovebox with my old california plate numbers and so mocked up a plate with legal 2021 tags and drove it around for 8 mos. The officer who was dispatched from Daly City called me because they were confused if it was my truck with expired tags from 10 yrs ago when I live in cali or if it was stolen like the DMV told them. I am still trying to unravel the complete story as I've yet to have a extended conversation with the officer who initially called me. It was recovered with a key in the ignition (The keys i bought it with turn the engine over but it wont start) so it looks like someone reconfigured the chip for the key and for the truck. I'm still scratching my head on how they stole it, that's still a mystery to me without a key.

 

Missing for a year and still in good condition, definitely buy a lottery ticket.

I thought for the longest time that she was shipped away in a container or that they drove her straight down to mexico. I'm with you, we never give up hope! Our Tacoma is always ours unless we willingly sell her away. When they are stolen, it's a horrible violated feeling... Godspeed and may she be cruising across the dark side of the moon!
