Mount for rooftop tent

Alright bois, this is my first post here & I’m looking for some advice. I drive. 2nd gen 11’ Tacoma, and I just bought a customized commercial cap that looks like the one in the second pic and I need to find a truck rack that will slide over my commercial cap. The issue is my bed is the compact 5’ bed and doesn’t allow for many racks to fit. I need to find a framing system that allows me to mount a rooftop tent on to it, what are your suggestions?

 

Rooftop tents are lame. Buy a nice ground tent and call it a day. What’s the point? “Oh I need to head into town and grab something, guess I need to tear my entire camp down.” Never understood the draw to rooftop tents.

 

Few suggestions:
1. find a good welder/fabricator and do something custom

3. Depending on the type of cap there are ladder rack options that mount to the frame structure of the cap and are good for up to 500 lbs

 

Why not look into a rack over the cab such as a prinsu for an RRT instead of over the cap? It will difficult to customize a rack that won't hinder opening the side panels or mounting points of the cap.

 

Have you considered the payload of these trucks? The cap,rack,RTT, gear and passengers? That’s a lot of weight for a Tacoma.

 

What's the manufacturer of the canopy? ARE? Contact a dealer for the brand of canopy and explain what you're looking for, they'll point you in the right direction. It'll be either the external rack like the 3rd pic or a multi-point rack bolted to the canopy roof

 

If you camp in places where this quick trip into town applies, then I'm not surprised you don't get the point of an RTT.

 

Assuming your RTT doesn't exceed the dynamic rating on the shell, why not install a rack on the shell to mount the RTT on?
