I know a lot of folks have seen much worse, but man if I'm not a little annoyed today after some jerk cut both the screens on my camper shell and stole a set of bed lights while I was at lunch in San Jose. Worst thing is the shell was unlocked, so they could have taken them without creating a bunch of work for me.

Minor loss all things considered. People are jerks

I grew up near there. Do not miss the Bay Area one bit. Sorry for your loss. It's not even the property that was removed, it is the lame way they went about getting in.

Remember, theft is a misdemeanor in CA......if its even prosecuted.

CA is well on the path of "if you have it and I want it, then I can take it".

That’s how HI is right now. It’s catch and release for these crooks, system is so backed up jails over populated. Could go on a crime spree jacking cars robbing people, be out the next day.

I feel your pain, someone popped the locks on my '00 to steal a $20 ob scanner... had to walk past 2 Audis and 2 Porches to do it to.

Yes, I usually leave the shell windows open unless it's the rainy season.

Just past the Milpitas city limit, south of the new BART station. In front of the weirdest dentist I've ever heard of, the "Toothscaler"

Grrrr..reminds me of my dad's 10 year old Chevy Citation that got broken into at the repair shop. They broke a window and punched part of the column when there were several nice cars right next to it. The shop owner said "you'd be surprised, they probably figure they'll go for the one to joyride in that is least likely to have an alarm or other antitheft stuff"..

Remember "we" voted for this. And the definition of crimes continue to be re-defined to lessen the offense and harder too prosecute. No reason to investigate, arrest and jail as it won't go anywhere.

I did the same when I lived in downtown Oakland - just leave the back unlocked with never any valuables inside. Smash and grabs are the norm in the city but there are plenty of Tesla's and fancier cars so I'm sure most thieves never bothered with the taco. Now that I moved to Pittsburgh I'm getting careless. I left my phone in the truck a few times and fortunately it wasn't taken. But I still have that instinct like, why wasn't my window smashed?

Its a sad state of affairs.

It is no wonder CA is being overrun with problems. Soon, the population will begin to adopt the law of Wild West of the late 1800s.

Feel your pain! Had my locks popped Sunday night and stole my dual zone Dometic fridge, couple of camp boxes with camping gear and and ammo can containing my wench controller. Idiots forgot the cord for the fridge. Luckily I have renters insurance. Next mod is an alarm system. I’ve been hit three times in less than two yrs. Although last time it was just a camp chair, while I was inside a gas station.

I know a guy who stole something from the Hells Angles. When they found him, they gave him a beating no one would ever want to receive and then cut off both thumbs and took them. He has never stolen anything since and now likes to wear slip-on shoes.

    The lesson is.....

Don't keep anything in your vehicle.

Even then the tweakers will use a sawzall or hammer to snag a $ for their habit.
