Yes, this! I've reached an age and a financial position where I try and limit my role in projects like this to writing the check. Twenty years and 50 lbs ago it may have been a different story.

And they last forever. I got two bags free from the place that I pick up materials from. They are made of heavy Tyvek material. I've had them for about 10 years. And the best part, they keep the bed relatively free from dirt, sand and gravel. I pull up to my project location, slide the bad to the end, tip it over and shovel it out exactly where I want it. Seems to work for me ...

    Delivery. Not Digiorno.

Been there, done that. You can do it yourself but for me it's worth the $30 delivery fee.

    Goodluck with your project, OP.

Better to get a bit of quality time with soccer mom while the guy is delivering the sand for you. :)

Even more than the mess. It's not trusting a front end loader around a truck you're personally paying for. That big bucket obstructs vision and, just like a forklift, a lot of those operators like to locate your vehicle by braille. As in, drive forward until you feel the bump, then tilt the bucket.

Not that they're malicious or unskilled, it's that they're in the habit of loading commercial, and nobody gives a fuck about love taps on the company truck. I don't care if it's 10 boxes of laminate flooring or a yard of pea gravel, if it's loaded by machine I bring a trailer. Keep the commercial equipment away from my tailgate.

Ive never had a loader touch my truck with forks or a bucket, but i do agree based on the condition of most contractor vehicles haha

Put ratchet strap across bed on the cargo loops to stiffin bed sides near tailgate before loading and also air up rear tires more to accommodate extra weight.

Yep.. my grandfather had his truck ruined when the loader decided he didn't care and dump a full bucket load into the back of the truck. Even though it was clearly stated NOT to load more than half a bucket.

Springs, tires and clutch all shot. After that

Make the operators job hard and hw may just decide make it easy on him.. there is a reason most yards that load will saybtheybare not responsible for damage to small vehicles. Or some may not even load and you end up shoveling to load.

I would have sand delivered but if didn’t, I’d place tarps in bed and ask the skip loader operator to be really careful.

For many, a banged-up, muddy, dilapidated looking 4x4 may have “cool factor” but not for me.

rent a dump trailer. It's cheap and so much easier to get unloaded.

Throw a tarp in the back and be done with it. Isn’t that why we have trucks?

I had a yard of gravel in the back of my taco and had no issues at all. The guy was super careful with the bucket. I removed the tailgate and it made unloading much easier.

Depends on who you ask. Some believe Pick up trucks are an expression of masculinity, and I guess the more black smoke and noise it can be tweaked to produce, the greater toxicity of the masculinity.
