I've been looking for a 2nd gen, short bed, color matched camper shell since I got my Tacoma, and haven't had much luck.

About a year ago I caved and bought a 1st gen shell from a buddy of mine that just "fits".

Now I'm tired of all the PNW rain that leaks into my bed, and I'm starting my search all over again.

Where did you find your camper shell?

After not finding anything reasonably priced for weeks, I found somebody selling their truck on craigslist and asked if they were interested in selling just the shell. It ended up working out for me. So don't just look up shells, also look for the trucks with them.

This is good advice, thanks. Do you mind me asking how much you paid?

Ended up paying $1000. A bit high, but the guy knew I was stuck with his. How many speedway blue shells do you ever see? I would expect you should be anywhere between $500-1000 for a decent shell. Just make sure the struts, paint, and windows are ok. Something to notice as well is, on ARE shells there is a little plaque on the back of the roof with the model info. Turns out mine started life as silver. I didn't notice when I bought it, but that's another bargaining point.

I have also been looking for about a year. Have called private sellers and dealers, but no one has taken the bait.

I did the exact same thing, guy selling a red truck with a white shell was more than happy to part with it before he sold the truck. Got it painted silver sky to match my truck at the beginning of lockdowns for $400... body shops were begging for work

I bought my Snugtop new from https://www.truckbuildersllc.com/.
They went the extra mile to help make it as leak-proof as possible, (still leaks lightly in really heavy rain), since it leaked like a damn sieve from the factory (3rd brake light, roof rack mounting holes, etc.). I didn't seal under my bed caps, so that's probably the source at this point.
