I was out 4x4ing over the weekend and a stick went through the sidewall of my tire on the rear. I stopped the truck and changed to my spare (smaller size) disengaged 4x4 then safely got the truck down to the road where is was flat and I swapped my spare to my front and swapped a full-size from my front to my rear. My 4x4hi light just keeps flashing now and will not engage. There was no water crossing so it’s not a water issue in the diff and yes I tried shutting the truck off starting it back up, rolling to engage the 4x4 and neutral rolling to engage 4x4 going to 4low. I know it’s not warn out parts cause I do engage 4x4 every month or so.

You can put it 4high while driving under 60mph(neutral not needed). For 4low you need to be in neutral and stopped or a very slow roll.

I would not worry about it until you get the correct tire back on. The front diff lock is most likely having issue with different sized wheels.

Bunch of stuff bolted on, some cool, some not
I had the same issue in my 2019 TRD OR. After a wheeling trip, going back to 2wd and the light would not stop flashing. Took it to the dealer and they said the ADD motor was bad. Here's the info from the Toyota site on the work they did.

DIFF/DRIVE AXLE ~|~TECHNICIAN FOUND ADD MOTOR THAT WAS INSTALLED WAS FAULTY PLEASE REPLACE ~|~NEWLY INSTALLED A.D.D. MOTOR IS NOT REPORTING EXPECTED VALUES ON LIMIT SWITCHES. ~|~REPLACED A.D.D. MOTOR UNDER PARTS WARRANTY. TEST DROVE VEHICLE IN 2X4, 4X4, AND 4X4LO. NO CONCERNS AT THIS TIME.

Apparently the first replacement they put in had the same problem, I don't know if it's a design issue or just bad luck. Unfortunately, I broke my driving foot a couple of weeks ago and have not been able to drive it since I got it back.

    Step 1
Walk us thru more precisely what happened.
In particular, when did the flashing FIRST start... When got flat?, when switched to 2wd? When put spare on?
Think hard and be as specific as you can (including what you are SURE of, and what you THINK).
After shutting off truck, when does it start flashing again as you turn on truck?

    Step 2
Do you have or know anybody with techstream?

Here is a thread I made about testing actuators and troubleshooting with an ohmmeter, but its not easy unless you are electrically minded. Teachstream is THE way to go.
