Something wrong about those pictures. Iridium should erode the side electrode not the center electrode. Just took mine out at 90k and the center looks almost new. Zoom in on some of the previous pictures as well.

My personal experience with the Denso iridiums in a supercharged 2008 is only 12,000 miles before misfiring under full boost. Both sets had the center fine wire eroded just like the pictures. The ones that weren't eroded away just disintegrated when touched. I switched to NGK ILFR7H which have a slightly larger center wire and currently have about 56,000 miles on them with no misfiring.

Not discounting your experience, but it makes me wonder if the little cap on the center electrode was ever there (counterfeit) or if it fell off somewhere during installation or operation. I'm guessing that little cap is the iridium and is supposed to protect the center electrode from erosion. At 90k I can see where the attachment joint is eroding.

I wonder if you are using a different model plug. The Denso IKH22 doesn't have a cap on the center wire.

Top one is old, the bottom one new. With a magnifier I see caps on both. Camera doesn't pick it up. Denso website has better pictures. Still wonder if running lean or detonation might not knock it off leaving the skinny wire to erode quickly.

If you ever wondered what 100,000 miles looks like on an iridium spark plug.

Passenger side only. Gonna tackle the driver's side on Friday. After reading, it's going to take me either 45 minutes or six hours. I hope it's 45 minutes but I know it will be six hours and a lot of rage. :anonymous:
